London Irish have bolstered their backline options for next season with the signing of centre Eoin Griffin from Connacht on a two-year contract.

"The signing is another example of the club's new owners' commitment to building an exciting, competitive and Irish-textured squad for the future," read a club statement.

Griffin, who was born in Galway, joined the Connacht Academy after impressing in the provincial schools competition in Ireland. He has made 62 appearances for the Province since joining in 2009, scoring four tries.

The 23-year-old has represented Ireland at age grade level and in 2013 was part of the Emerging Ireland squad that took part in the inaugural Tbilisi Cup in Georgia.

"Eoin is an exciting, young Irish talent. He is a big, physical centre with great feet and distribution skills, so he will fit in well with the style of rugby we play," said London Irish Director of Rugby Brian Smith.

"The form of our centres this season has been superb so competition for places next season will be fierce which is what every coach is after. All great news in building the squad for the future to drive the new London Irish vision of being able to compete for top league status and silverware."

Commenting on his decision to join London Irish, Eoin Griffin said: "I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing in England where the Aviva Premiership is very competitive with world class players. London Irish's new owners have an exciting vision for the future of the club and I'm very much looking forward to playing a part in turning that into reality.

"Connacht Rugby is all I have known and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities the province has given to me. I am committed to ensuring we finish the season in the best possible fashion before moving to London Irish," Griffin added.
