Rugby league star Sam Burgess is set to quit the NRL as England look to fast-track him for the 2015 World Cup, Planet Rugby understands.

Burgess, 25, is contracted to the South Sydney Rabbitohs who have denied speculation that he will switch codes.

However, our sources are reporting that an Aviva Premiership club, believed to be Bath, will sign Burgess allegedly on a three-year deal.

The eye-watering transfer fee in the region of £500,000 ($A920,000), reported by the Daily Mail on Thursday, has also reportedly been finalised.

Burgess is contracted until the end of 2016, but was convinced to make the switch after speaking with England coach Andy Farrell last year during the Rugby League World Cup.

Weighing 116 kg and standing at 6ft 4, Burgess would provide huge physicality in midfield or the back-row for England.

The Rabbitohs' captain, John Sutton, added that losing Burgess would be a major blow on and off the field.

"He is a great player. Ever since he came to Souths he has been a leader," said Sutton.

"He would be a big loss if he does go, but I don't know anything about that."
