Gareth Evans Gloucester 2014

Hungry: Gareth Evans

Gloucester back-row Gareth Evans will not stop running out in the wide channels as he looks to kick on with the Cherry and Whites this season.

The number eight, who was man of the match against Perpignan in their impressive 36-18 triumph in France, is loving his run in the team.

"Days like Sunday are what you live for as a rugby player," he told the Gloucester Citizen when talking about Sunday's much-needed triumph.

"I love having the ball in space. The guys take the mick out of me saying I'm a failed back but if I get myself in those wide channels I will have a go.

"I had (Charlie) Sharples, and I think (Jonny) May, on the outside and you know if worst comes to worst you can just give the ball them and they will do something. But I gave it a go and it came off."

Evans' try-scoring performance and his recent form leaves England international Ben Morgan being forced to settle for a bench spot. However, such competition for places can only be good for Gloucester, revealed Evans.

"I'm loving having so many opportunities at the moment. I'm a rugby player and all I want to do is play. Every time I get on the pitch I will give it my best go." he added.

"You enjoy competition for places because it keeps you on your toes and makes you become a better player - if you're not on form there's a capped international to take your place."
