Leicester have been hit by yet another midfield blow in 2013/14 after inside centre Daniel Bowden was sidelined for up to three months due to injury.
The 27-year-old playmaker suffered multiple fractures of an eye socket and cheekbone during Saturday's 30-23 Aviva Premiership win over Sale.
Richard Cockerill received some form of comfort, however, as Bowden's team-mate Anthony Allen was given the all-clear to return against Bath.
"Dan had a scan on Saturday evening and has multiple fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury.
"He will have surgery at some point in the near future when the swelling has gone down. He will probably be out for eight to 12 weeks. It's not ideal is it. The midfield seems to be the bogey position this season.
"I am bitterly disappointed for Dan and for us because he was playing so well. Our luck continues.
"But Anthony is fit to play and will be in the 23. We lose one and gain one.
"When the power in Ant's leg got back to normal, he was ready to go and it is key for us to have Ant back in the mix."
