Dean Ryan v Newcastle

Dean Ryan: Has a

Worcester boss Dean Ryan claims he has a "unique" challenge on his hands after his side suffered their seventh straight Premiership defeat - this time 21-6 at home to Bath.

Tries from Anthony Perenise and replacement Horacio Agulla sealed the 21-6 win for the visitors, a result which in turn kept Worcester Warriors rooted to the bottom of the table on two points.

The hosts had Paul Warwick to thank for their points, but Ryan is still searching for his first Aviva Premiership victory since taking charge this summer.

Despite the gloom surrounding Sixways, though, he refused to be downbeat, instead insisting that his troops are taking steps forward in their performance.

"I thought we played some decent rugby when we got the chance, but we just couldn't manage the game as well as they did," Ryan said.

"They've got a big pack and they squeezed us a little bit and we were left trying to find an answer in conditions that were pretty poor.

"But overall that is a significant improvement for us. We have got a better understanding of our game, and against a side who were not on top form like Bath we might have got something out of the game.

"There are so many new faces and new coaches, and we've not got a history to go back to and say 'this is what we've done in the past'.

"The challenge here is unique. We understand what it is, the guys who came here understand, and if we can get this right in the long term it will be the most rewarding thing we have ever done."

George Ford gave Bath the foundation for victory with 11 points from the tee, but it was tries in each half that proved the Warriors' undoing in damp conditions.

Perenise burrowed his way over on 28 minutes and Agulla, who had just come onto the pitch, made sure of the win with 20 minutes remaining.

"Worcester, like we thought they would do, came out and started the second half really well, they possibly could have got a try," said Bath head coach Mike Ford.

"But we took out that purple patch that they had, and went and scored a try at the other end which killed the game and we saw the game out.

"All week we have been training in dry weather, and Kyle Eastmond has said to me 'that's the first rugby game that I've not touched the ball'.

"That's what the conditions do to you sometimes, it's not about playing rugby it's about field position. I thought in general we played the field position really well.

"At half-time we talked about the lead we had against Leicester, the lead we had against London Irish and how we didn't go and finish them off.

"Although the start to the second half was a bit jittery, I thought we got hold of the game and the substitutions were good and I was pretty pleased with the 80-minute performance."
