Dan Bowden v Newcastle

Interest: Dan Bowden

Leicester Tigers centre Dan Bowden admits the prospect of playing for England would be an honour should he receive a call-up.

Bowden qualifies to play for England next season after three years in the Aviva Premiership, first with London Irish before moving to Leicester at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season.

Born in New Zealand, Bowden played for the Crusaders and Highlanders in Super Rugby before making the move north, but admits that the opportunity would be difficult to turn down.

Citing the positive experiences of two other Kiwis to play for England, Shontayne Hape and Riki Flutey, Bowden admitted that whilst his first ambition had always been to play for the All Blacks the opportunity to represent his adopted country would be alluring.

"It's obviously a big ticket. A World Cup at home for any of the English players and to be part of that would be fantastic," Bowden told the Telegraph.

"I have been brought up to want to be an All Black but that hasn't happened.

"If playing for England did happen I would be honoured I would go about it the right way and try and do it justice.

"I'm good friends with Shontayne Hape and Riki Flutey who both played at 12 for England funnily enough.

"They spoke highly of it. They loved the experience, especially Riki playing for the Lions and Shontayne going to the World Cup.

"They hold it in pretty high regard, as you should. They said if I got an opportunity I should really push my case."
