Frustrated: Nigel Davies

Gloucester boss Nigel Davies believes indiscipline cost his side dearly in Friday's 15-13 loss against Bath at the Rec.

Cherry and Whites fly-half Freddie Burns scored the only try of the game - charging down opposite number George Ford's kick before racing through to dot down.

But Ford, who endured a mixed evening from the kicking tee, was on target with five penalties to secure the victory.

Bath's Anthony Watson was sent to the sin bin just before Burns trimmed the gap to 15-13 with 14 minutes remaining but Gloucester, who had Rupert Harden yellow carded earlier in the second half, failed to take advantage - much to Davies' annoyance.

"It's very frustrating, it was a poor performance in too many areas," he said.

"But our big problem was our indiscipline, we kept on giving away penalties, it was shocking.

"We had a chance to win that game even though we didn't play well but we just kept on letting them off the hook.

"The team are all very frustrated with themselves because they know that they let themselves down.

"They had a chance there in the last 20 minutes but they didn't take it and it was because of our indiscipline.

"There is a lot of potential in this team but we're just not showing it at the moment. There is a lot of work to be done.

"The one thing they will do though is fight. Fight for each other and fight for the jersey and that is promising."

Bath were in complete command in the first half and were camped in the Gloucester 22 for long periods but all they had to show for their efforts were Ford's three penalties and Burns was able to trim the gap to six before half-time.

Ford made it 12-3 early in the second half but he was also wayward with another before Burns stole in for the try to close the gap to two.

Ford and Burns exchanged penalties before the former missed a chance to put the game to bet let on, but it proved to matter little.

"We have to give credit to Gloucester for the way that they fought back," said Bath head coach Mike Ford, who saw his side move up into second.

"We missed a few chances at goal and we probably should have been safe by then but we weren't able to pull away - it could have gone either way at the end.

"But I was pleased with the efforts, especially from the pack. Carl Fearns was man of the match but Dave Attwood, Stuart Hooper and the whole front row could have won it to be honest.

"Want really pleases me though is what I know this side is capable of with the ball in hand. We didn't see it here because of the conditions but it's really exciting for us and for when we do show it."
