Charlie Sharples for Gloucester

Wants to kick on: Sharples

Gloucester wing Charlie Sharples is looking to build on his try-scoring performance against Munster when they face Bath at the Rec on Friday.

The Cherry and Whites, who had made wholesale changes to their side for the Heineken Cup clash, played attacking rugby which suited Sharples.

"It was nice to get a bit of ball in hand, as a winger that's what you need. It's good to get in the game that way, sometimes it doesn't always come your way and you have to come looking for it," the international told the club's official website.

"Fortunately, that wasn't the case at the weekend and the ball kept coming my way. Hopefully that will continue but, with the weather predicted for Friday, who knows!"

Sharples admitted the match at Thomond Park in Limerick was a bruising affair but took heart from the fact the Cherry and Whites matched Munster.

"It was very physical and you certainly knew afterwards that you'd been in a game. It was the most bruised I've been after a game for a while. It was a real battle, and that wasn't just their physicality, I think we matched them on that front," he added.

"We really turned up in defence and around the contact area. So, it was tough and the body feels it afterwards.

"It'll be the same at Bath. Derby games are all about commitment and physicality. If we can turn up, 1 to 15, like we did against Munster, with the forwards fronting up as they did, being as physical as we can in defence, then we can add the skillful touches on top of that.

"It's a huge one, one of those massive rivalries with a little bit of extra spice to it. Fortunately, I've been involved in a couple of games down there where we've won, and it's a fantastic feeling when you walk off that pitch having got the result.

"Hopefully, I'll experience that again this weekend."
