Dean Ryan v Newcastle

Supported: Dean Ryan

Worcester Warriors chairman Cecil Duckworth has given director of rugby Dean Ryan his full support despite a winless start to the season.

Worcester have lost all five of their matches in the Aviva Premiership so far this season, leaving them at the bottom and seven points adrift.

A 9-9 draw with Oyonnax on Saturday in the Challenge Cup left the club still waiting for that first victory under Ryan's tenure.

Duckworth in his defence of Ryan called for greater patience from the Worcester fans, stating the full changes implemented by the former Gloucester boss would take time to be effective.

"Everybody is impatient and everybody likes success," Duckworth told The Rugby Paper.

"I'm not criticising our fans - it's natural that people want success. But it's going to take time to change things.

"We weren't going in the right direction. We wanted someone of international ability and that's what we have in Dean Ryan.

"Dean has inherited a squad that isn't as good as we would like. They will get better.

"It takes time for a new coaching team to get messages across. I'm 200% supportive of Dean and what he is trying to do.

"We are going to have a few heartaches along the way, but we will emerge as a top team."
