Courtney Lawes: Excited by Saints' potential

Northampton lock Courtney Lawes believes the current Saints team is one of their most powerful sides they've had in a long time.

Jim Mallinder's troops have made a good start to the season and are currently in second place in the standings after claiming a 19-19 draw against Leicester at Welford road on Saturday.

And Lawes is excited by the team's potential and believes their best is still to come.

"I don't think we've had a team this good, powerful and organised for a long, long time," he told the Northampton Evening Telegraph.

"It certainly showed in the game against Harlequins as well; we're winning and drawing a difficult places.

"We're only going to get better as a team. We've got a lot of new faces and hopefully we can just keep it going and keep building."

The 24-year-old England international won the man-of-the-match award after a superb display against Leicester.

He is keen to build on that performance and is thrilled to do well in Northampton's bid for the title.

"I've been fit for a little while now, which is fantastic," Lawes added.

"I'm just improving as a player and hoping to reach my potential this year and really crack on."
