Long recovery: Miles Benjamin

Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has revealed his delight at the return of winger Miles Benjamin to action after a severe injury.

Benjamin broke his neck in a pre-season match for Leicester after signing for the club from Worcester at the end of 2011-2012, sustaining the injury in pre-season and as a result missing the entirety of the last campaign.

Having returned to action in Leicester's fiery 38-16 win over Gloucester in an A League fixture on Monday, Cockerill is now looking forward to easing him back into first-team action following such a lengthy layoff.

"We are delighted for him. He will get some match fitness and hopefully be back in the first team very soon," Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester.

"We are just glad to have him back on the field. There is a smile on his face again and it is not all doom and gloom.

"He had some good touches on Monday. Hopefully we can build on that next Monday in the 'A' League against Worcester.

"He is going to be very important to us and in the next few weeks and the rest of the season."
