Gloucester have added to their options at hooker with the signing of Dan George from the relegated London Welsh.
The 26-year-old, who has represented Wales at age group level, joins Koree Britton, Darren Dawidiuk and Huia Edmonds in a fight for the number two jersey.
"Dan's someone I've come across in the past when he was in the Scarlets Academy. He's a fairly young hooker who did well last year when he was at London Welsh," Gloucester director of rugby Nigel Davies told the club's official site.
"Hooker is a key position for us and we have to make sure that we have enough plenty of cover of the right quality.
"Huia (Edmonds) is still a bit away from being fit to play, so we have to make sure we have adequate strength in depth moving forward."
Despite the hot competition for a starting berth, Davies is confident that George can make an impact.
"Anybody that we bring in, we believe that they're ready to do that. And, in the right environment, we hope to see them grow and reach their full potential," he said.
"That's our job as coaches and strength and conditioners, to help them be their best from a physical, mental and tactical point of view."
"If we can do that, then Dan will develop within this system and he will really push these guys."
