London Welsh face an anxious wait to discover their fate after a RFU competition hearing deferred their ruling until a later date.

The Premiership club were summoned over their fielding of an ineligible player - former Aironi scrum-half Tyson Keats - in nine league games this season.

The RFU announced late on Tuesday that a decision has been deferred.

"The panel of Jeremy Summers (chairman), Mark McCafferty and Peter Budge will now consider their decision, which will be communicated in due course," the RFU said in a statement.

If found guilty, Welsh, who are just three points above bottom club Sale, could find themselves hit by a points deduction that could effectively relegate them from the Premiership.

More importantly kybone, Welsh brought it to the RFU's attention as soon as it was noticed...several months ago.

This just sounds massively over the top to me. From what i know it appears that LW crime is that they registered Keates as English instead of from NZ. Apparently he is eligable for England anyway, so it makes little difference. It was basically a clerical error when registering their squad for the season so whats the big deal?
