Northampton want to keep Myler

Wanted: Stephen Myler

Northampton Saints boss Jim Mallinder hopes that fly-half Stephen Myler will remain at the club next season.

Both Myler and other Northampton fly-half Ryan Lamb are both out of contract at the end of the season.

The Rugby League convert has been at Franklin's Gardens for six seasons and played his part in both LV=Cup and Challenge Cup success.

"He has played some big games for us and was involved in some of our good successes, and he has been playing well," said Mallinder to the Northampton Herald and Post.

"I think there is still more we can get out of Stephen and I think he can play even better. He's a really good player and somebody we are looking to keep for the next couple of years."

Alex Corbisiero, Kahn Fotuali'i and Salesi Ma'afu have all be confirmed as new arrivals for Northampton next season, a departure from targeting young, English players.

"We've got a decent record of bringing players in who are not particularly well-known and developing them into decent rugby players," added Mallinder.

"We're not a team like some of the French sides and possibly Saracens who go out and pick big players that are playing well at other clubs and bring them in. We can't do that to a large extent, so we have got to be very selective in terms of our recruitment.

"Generally, if you could, you'd get an English player in and if you can't then you've got to look at the whole world and every single rugby playing nation, which is what we're trying to do."
