Stringer grateful for Bath loan

Peter Stringer Bath v Exeter LV Cup 2013

Grateful: Peter Stringer

Bath scrum-half Peter Stringer has expressed his gratitude after joining the club on loan from Munster for the next two months.

Stringer has fallen down the pecking order at Munster behind Conor Murray and Duncan Williams, forcing the two-time Heineken Cup and Grand Slam winner to look elsewhere.

"I'm really grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to play," said Stringer to BBC Radio Bristol.

"It's been very frustrating [at Munster]. I still have an ambition and drive to play at the highest level. That's why I looked to move away and thankfully Bath gave me an opportunity.

"I was looking for a loan as I haven't had an opportunity to play. When you're doing all the training like I was at Munster and not getting an opportunity to step on the pitch at the end of the week.

"The first few days [at Bath] were a bit of a struggle but as a player when you step foot on the field your instinct takes over.

"I was glad to get a run and a decent bit of game time on the pitch. Thankfully I was able to play a part in the victory."

A tidy player who will be a real asset for Bath. After sitting on the bench at Munster he must be raring to go.

@PREEST to be fair, I suspect that the deal is very short-term - with Claasens apparently on his way it made a few people sit up when the two announcements happened within a couple of days of each other but Claasens has broken his hand so the recruitment is only a loan.

I don't think he's going to play for Ireland again, and he really isn't the best option for Munster, so I guess he can count himself lucky he's got a shot at Bath.
