Steve Diamond: Remains optimistic

Sale CEO Steve Diamond has revealed that the club is set to appoint a new forwards coach this week in an attempt to put to their poor start to the season to an end.

The Sharks have lost their opening five Premiership matches and are currently the bottom-placed team on the table with just a single point.

Former forwards coach Steve Scott was fired after Sale's shock home loss to London Welsh on September 21 and Diamond is confident a replacement will be in place by the end of the week.

"We are stepping up the search and we are hoping to appoint someone with a real proven track record at the highest level," Diamond told the Manchester Evening News.

"We need someone who can put some steel into the side and work on the core fundamentals of the game."

In ther most recent clash they lost 31-10 to Bath on Saturday - a match in which Tom Brady and Andy Powell were both yellow carded.

Poor discipline has been one of the features of Sale's poor start to the season but Diamond believes the side will start winning soon.

"The commitment was there, it's just the ability to be disciplined," he added.

"We should have been coming away with a losing bonus point, even at 24-10 down, but for the give-aways.

"But when you are in a situation like we are in, everything tends to go against you. What you have got to do is not blame anybody else and just get on with it.

"If we carry on with the training week like we had in the build-up to the Bath game, and commit ourselves physically to the game, then we will sort the discipline out."
