@armchair general
i find myself warming to your logical postings lately. i agree with exactly what you said there. hes just too big to play 7 as he is obsessed with bulking up for whatever reason. 8 is his position if he can oust the boys at wasps, never mind england

I think he's an 8 and his best chance for England is 8. Maybe 6 but don't agree his a 7 except maybe v SAf. Not sure though: the fact we can not make our minds up on him says it all and means he's destined to be a utility back row forward. He's 3rd choice for each position for Eng at best so build a role at Wasps and maybe get a few more caps for England in 2013/14. If he doesn't specialise at 8 I see no future with England.

We have Robshaw, Widdecombe, Armitage - so many - who could fill the problem position. Haskell will be lucky to get a look in I reckon. Not sure where Tom Johnson plays - is it number 7 ?
JamieTheProp, if you read this, yes, I'm a Leeds lad. Roundhegians is the club and Widdecombe the mascot. She drinks like a trooper but won't set fire to her f**ts.

I can agree with most of the assessment from all of you and as a Wasps fan I'll be happy if he spends most of the season in Wasp colours rather than England..... we'll need every half decent player we have to survive this season.

Too much of a ball carrier to be a seven IMHO, although good on the floor. I think 6 is a better position for him, but then are croft etc ahead of him when all fit?

@ 5Lock4ward - I agree that he's a 7, but I also agree with heart_of_oak - there are better players ahead of him. His reputation for being a penalty-giver is nonsense, but I'd still prefer Armitage at 7.

Not sure I agree with those sentiments. Simply put, I think there are better players ahead of him.

He's played in every league of importance except the Celtic-Italian League (you cannot force me to say RabboDirect Pro 12) and yet he can't hold onto a place in the England side. Either the coaching staff is that arrogant or they are that bound and determined to avoid wide open ball moving rugby. In my humble opinion he's being played out of position. His physique is similar to Pocock and no one can question his work ethic, thus I believe he should be playing open-side flanker.
