@Toulousain, Do you think Sexton is good enough for Toulous? I think he is way over rated. You need Nick Evans or one of the young South Africans. On the battle to educate Leinster_goy and the curates_egg on the other thread, my advice to you is to stay away from the red wine. You know what you are like.....2 glasses and you get all soft and feminine and start feeling sorry for them...then its love, peace, and goodwill to all mankind....while I am rather enjoying watching the tongue lashing and you logically wrapping them around your little finger....great sport, though a little one sided in terms of intellectual caliber.

new_j4a, interesting, i will ask around re the kearney rumour and get back to you. my hunch is no since we have two good 15s here. would have preferred sexton as 10 is our weak spot.

meanwhile, for your amusement, i seem to have (yet again) upset the leinster contingent...

@Toulesain, I am counting the minutes left on sincero's YC so that he can come back and endorse your view that Leinster has found its level at pro12. I hear that there will be a little landslide of players following Sexton to the countries that can afford good rugby. Will Rob Kearney be next? He is certainly one of the few Leinster players who could secure a spot in the big league....there may be one other...one of their imports from the SH? BOD tried to migrate to S15 but only the Golden Lions would consider him. I look forward to the Kearney announcement. Sources at the Irish Independent leaked that the signing is within a week or two of becoming public knowledge....perhaps you have information as Toulouse was mentioned as a destination?

@Toulousain, I realise I'm rather late on this particular thread and you my not be reading this anymore, and I don't mean to judge after the event, but starting a post with the words "not meaning to provoke you further sincero" is rather cute.

not meaning to provoke you further sincero, but i noticed pro12 teams now get a 3 week "mini-break" to recuperate following the efforts of the last 2 weeks of hcup, and for internationals to go into camp ahead of 6n. so it's little wonder that all the pro12 teams sent out their 1st XVs last weekend, no? no use saving your players when they are scheduled a rest anyway.....

ah, new_j4a, welcome back to our parochial northern hemisphere politics.

as i just posted on another thread, i wouldn't be too quick to dance on leinster's grave. can there be any doubt that they will win the amlin? bear in mind, they are the only pro12 team in it. so all the other teams have 15 or so competitive games to play by the end of the season. leinster have 3. if they don't win, with the final at home, versus tired/disinterested opposition, they truly are a fallen power!

@Headhunter99 says..."I see the SF's as an anglo - english affair...." Really? My take is that the only certainty is that there will be a French team in the SF.....and the rest is with the Gods and the notoriously fickle bounce of the ball. (Oh and one other certainty that just occurred to me....with Leinster's hopes well and truly buried, sincero has crawled back under his rock and the world just became a more pleasant place)

I see the SF's as an anglo - english affair which means the final in Dublin could be a party for those to countries..... great planning to give the top european competition final to a stadium that only hols 50-55,000 fans. Either switch it to croke park or send it back to england or france... best place is cardiff

HQ vs Munster : HQ

Care-Evans is the best 9-10 couple of Europe

Clermont-Montpellier : Clermont

Clermont are in a good fit...

Toulon-Leicester : Toulon

Leicester displayed brave but poor game against Toulouse... They can thank beauxis. But Johnny will not make so many gifts at Mayol...

Sarries-Ulster : Ulster

because there is always one outside win and at least one irish team in SF

Waz4before says...

Quins/Claremont games are too close to call either way; Sarries will prove very hard to beat at home but if there is a side to do just that it's probably Ulster and you'd expect to call Toulon a home win wouldn't you - however that's where I'd see the only real upset coming in this round and fancy the Tigers to put together a "one-off" performance befitting their European pedigree and win this one before losing out in the S/F's.

Looking beyond the HEC QF's ... there's some cracking good games in the Amlin Cup as well, you'll be hard pressed to get a ticket for any of these games all of which could equally grace the superior competition!

For those with plenty of mouth on this board (Egbert for one ;-) ... I dare you to put your money where your mouth is and have a real bet and put your hard earned cash on the line -- me, I wouldn't risk money on any of these games as they all look to close to call ... just the little matter of the 6N's to get out of the way before we get to this little lot :-)

Ulster v Toulon

Clermont v Munster

Ulster v Clermont - Clermont winning it.

Quins are no great shakes, but being English they'll get all the hype (much like every other English side has done in the last 7 or 8 years before crashing)

Clermont are unstoppable

Toulon Leicester is harder to call, but I'll go with the home side

Ulster are better than Sarries and will do to them what they did to Northampton.

Munster away to Clermont, no debate on that one unfortunately

Ulster are better then Toulon and Leicester

I don't care about the Amlin.

maybe Gloucester will rock the boat?

NHsaints says...

I think the only game in the HC quarters that could go either way is Sarries vs Ulster as the 'home' advantage might just give Saracens the edge they need. Otherwise home wins for the other 3. Looks alot like we're expecting the 6 nations to look...a competition that will contested by France (favourites), England or Ireland.

looks like a Leinster-toulouse final at the RDS is on the cards in the amlin. better than nothing, i guess

as for the Heino, i'll definitely be rooting for quins in that QF (wouldn't support the red shite if you paid me). though i don't think harlequins will get further than the SF, with clermont having home country advantage. if ulster's injuries ease, they should beat saffacens, even away from home. that sets up an ulster-toulon SF. if i had to call it, my money's on an epic clermont-ulster final

I fancy both Ulster and Munster to win away against Saracens and Harlequins. No English in the Semis!

froggy73 says...

I certainly don't see Munster winning at Quins, nor I see Leinster getting a win at Toulon. The impressive Montpellier is a deserving team but playing Clermont in Marcel Michelin is one bridge to far for them I'm afraid. More uncertainty imo for Sarries vs Ulster though again I would put my money on a home win.

SF therefore should be an all Anglo-French affair.

The 2 Irish clubs can have hope though: I am quite bad a predictions :)
