Four months out for Bowe

SKY_MOBILE Tommy Bowe - Ulster Heineken Cup

Long lay-off: Tommy Bowe

Ireland and Ulster have been struck by a sizeable blow after finisher Tommy Bowe was ruled out for approximately four months due to a knee injury.

The wing sustained significant lateral ligament damage to his right knee in the closing stages of Ulster's Heineken Cup loss to Northampton last Saturday and underwent surgery to fix the issue.

Bowe now faces a long period of recovery and is set to miss Ulster's remaining Pool games and also Ireland's 2013 Six Nations Championship.

BODsGODmisspelt - sadly I think you may be right on Ferris and POC missing the Lions. And the Lions will miss them. Hope BOD not captain - he was outstanding in 2009 without the captaincy. Lets the man enjoy his rugby and the tour and we will see the best of him.Doesn't need the extra responsibility.

He will still make that lions team. As will BOD (captain), Kearney (starting) whereas I reckon POC and Ferris won't.

Fitzgerald for the flyers spot anyone?

Nooo four months !! Lions is a big big ask now, such a shame he was a nailed on starter for me, big lad, great footballer, great attitude and was a fan favourite in 2009. Mend up quick if you can get back in 3 months you have a fighting chance !

It would be a real blow for the Lions to lose Bowe - easily the most intelligent winger in the Four Nations.

Ulster and Ireland are very lucky to have a player of the calibre of Craig Gilroy to step up.

Craig Gilroy has an opening he needs to take full advantage they will probably still take Bowe you don't leave a player of his caliber out of the lions.

Hope he recovers soon, Great player.

Would be good to see him ready for the Lions.

Does this put him out of lion contention, since wing is a strong position?
