Halfpenny leaves hospital

Leigh Halfpenny Wales v Australia

Released: Leigh Halfpenny

Wales and Cardiff Blues were given a welcome lift after Leigh Halfpenny was discharged from hospital following scans at University Hospital Wales.

The full-back was taken from the pitch in the final moments of Wales' match against Australia at the Millennium Stadium complaining of neck pain.

He was immediately admitted to hospital to exclude any serious neck injury, a process which thankfully has now been concluded.

"I want to say thank you to all of the medical teams who have looked after me following my injury yesterday," Halfpenny told wru.co.uk.

"The paramedics, WRU and Millennium Stadium medical teams were outstanding. All of the staff at University Hospital Wales were also amazing.

"Everyone has been so supportive and the care that I have had has been incredibly professional and second to none. I'd also like to thank all of those who have been sending me messages of support following the injury."

Halfpenny will now undertake a period of treatment and rehabilitation.

Some naive comments on here. Of course there are no grumblings in Wales as a Welsh player wasn't assaulted this week!

Heroic guy. A Jason Robinson / Johnnie Wilko cross. I'm sue he's English really. Tough call at 15 for Lions. I think Gatland needs to play one specialist wing and two fullbacks at 11 an 15. Due to the tallent at 15 and Eng has shown the options it gives in a kicking countering game. Then take Halfpenny Brown Goode Kearney and start two. Foden may well displace one of them when back. Bowe and Cuthbert or Ashton as wings. Cuthbert was right on track but I feel he really should have put Beale in touch yesterday when it really mattered.

Baring injury or a dramatic lose of form he's one of the few Welsh players who, deserving, already has his place in the lions squad.

As soon as he's done with rehab, let him wait on the Lions plane. Surely he doesn't need to prove himself in 6N again!
