Nic White: Starts his first Test

New Wallabies scrum-half Nic White is confident he can deliver a good performance against Argentina in Perth on Saturday.

White's selection ahead of Australia's first-choice number nine Will Genia is viewed as the biggest shock since Ewen McKenzie started his tenure as Wallabies coach two months ago.

Despite losing the battle for Australia's number nine jersey, Genia is helping White in his preparations for Saturday's Test and the man who is widely regarded as the world's best scrum-half had an unexpected selection gift for the man who replaced him: two pairs of size 9½ boots.

''[Will's] not only offered me advice but given me two pairs of boots this week,'' White told the Canberra Times.

''It just shows where Will and I are at. We're just friends at the end of the day.''

White has won three Test caps and been on the losing side in each one of them. He is determined to turn things around in his first start in a Wallabies jersey.

''Ewen hasn't given me the jersey to go out and have a little run around,'' he said.

''I have to make sure I'm well prepared. I'm extremely excited.''

McKenzie is confident White will justify the faith he has placed in him with a fine dis play against los Pumas.

''[White's] got one of the best kicking games I've ever seen and people will assume we've picked him because of his kicking game,'' McKenzie said.

''But he's actually got a very good running game ... You have to have an environment where you've got competition for spots or you won't get the best out of everyone.''
