On his way back: Ali Williams

Ali Williams remains in All Blacks coach Steve Hansen's plans even though he has not fully recovered from injury.

Williams has been sidelined since June when he sustained a knee injury against Ireland. However, he is currently in camp with the All Blacks and took a limited part in Tuesday's Dunedin training.

The lock has played in 75 Tests and Hansen, who values the experience and off-field knowledge the veteran has, has indicated that he will come into the reckoning for selection for the end-of-year tour.

Having the Blues stalwart with the squad also allows their medical staff to monitor his injury which has prevented him from playing in the ITM Cup.

"We are obviously pretty keen to track his progress," All Blacks manager Darren Shand told Fairfax Media.

"He was down last week, he is in this week and has got the best part of a couple of weeks (with us) - and we are hoping that he might get some action in the ITM Cup before we pick the side for the end of year tour."

Williams underwent surgery on his knee late in June but before the All Blacks squad was named for the Rugby Championship he suffered a setback due to bone bruising.

The All Blacks begin their northern hemisphere tour against Scotland on November 12.
