Scotland lock Richie Gray was heavily critical of his team's performance after shipping 50 points against Wales in Cardiff.

Even with Stuart Hogg sent off after 20 minutes had been played, Gray still stated that the manner of the defeat was unacceptable.

The numerical disadvantage didn't absolve Scotland for the number of tries they conceded however in the eyes of Gray.

Scotland in the end finished the tournament with only one victory, the narrow 21-20 success over Italy in Rome.

"We are all embarrassed by that result. At this level, to get 50 put against you just should not happen," said Gray.

"After the game, the heads were all down in the changing room. We wanted to put in a better performance than we did but we feel like we have let everyone down.

"It was very tough to take. We went down to 14 men but even then we should not have conceded as much as we did.

"I can't fault the boys for effort and heart but we should have played a little smarter. We need to get the details right when situations like that do arise.

"It's a very sour note to finish the championship on. Everyone in the changing room is hurt.

"The scoreboard doesn't look the best but everyone fought hard and never gave in. We can take pride from that."
