As a passionate Welshman and rugby fan, I can't wait for the BL tour. Even if they pick Lancaster as coach ( which, and I don't want to sound disrespectful, I can't see them doing purely on international experience etc ), I think the beauty of it is that the nation as a whole will be behind them.

@ Dingbat.. I'm sorry but I disagree wih you completely. I'm not sure what you are basing his "inevitable" faliure on,.. Surly not his record as an international coach in the last 4 years,... There is alot of rugby to be played before that tour,.. lets see how Wales do down under before we make a decision on that,..
I agree Lancaster is a top class coach,.. and I'm sure that if Gatland does go as head coach, we will see him involved in some way,.. but give the guy a chance,. He did well in NZ, he's done well in the 6n,... and as for the comment about WC being more impressive that 2 Grand slams from 4 competitions,... maybe your right,.. but that was then,.. and this is now.

jose_jones - Andy Robinson is a World Cup winning coach which surely trumps 2 Grand Slams? I am not suggesting AR for Lions coach, but you see my point? There are some very good british coaches about, including the very impressive Lancaster, and some young coaches who have Lions playing experience. If Gatland is chosen as the best for the Lions then the Lions have lost before they get on the plane.

Gatland is the best choice for Lions coach regardless of his success with Wales. Don't forget he's coached in England with Wasps and coached Ireland. He's no fool and will surely pick the best players for the position. This isn't a guy who deals with sentimentality over the bigger picture. Don't forget he left Martyn Williams, a legend, hanging on 99 caps. Seemed a harsh call but look how far Warburton has come. He would have been heavily involved with selection in the last tour and I don't think there was an unreasonable Welsh bias on that tour.

Gatland will pick the best 15,... we won't all agree with his team choices,.. but then,. we are not all double grand slam winning coaches are we.
With Wales he's turned a pigs ear into a silk purse,.. he a good choice for lions coach,... and I'm struggling to think of a better one.

He will heavily favour the welsh players at every opportunity, and if they have come up short in SH (again), then Lions will go the same way. A good Lions coach has to balance things so that every player and nationality feels they have a fair crack. This is hard to achieve, and even McGeechan has made mistakes e.g. Peter Wright selected instead of Jeff Probyn in 1993!!
Most of all the coach must not have a giant ego - as per Henry/Woodward - which is another reason why Gatland would be a poor choice.
He probably is a certain for the coach role, but the selection team should be doing more than just going for the easy choice. It should be the right man for a very specific set of conditions.

Great to have another slam in the bag but we're gonna have to improve a lot to get wins in Australia; as the thrill and skill factor is now firmly ebbing away from international rugby I may henceforth be judging this side purely on results. I'm delighted with the win but I have no great love for the rugby this side plays.
@wilias - maybe so but to be fair, and I'll only whisper it, we're playing a bit like England...

Early in the season Australia are usually horrible to watch but have a knack of scraping wins out of nothing especially at home.
I don't expect good rugby from the forthcoming series, just "winning ugly" rugby from the team with the best mental composure. I suspect Wales are still a little brittle when put under blowtorch pressure.

They need to do it again next year and not repeat the false dawns of 05 and 08 where nothing came of it after. They had a lot of luck and it was a weaker championship this year but a grand slam was never won easily or without a decent bounce, so take nothing away from this achievement

I feel that welsh rugby is in a good place atm .They have a very good 1st 15 and now very good players as back up and pushing hard for starting places in all posistions.They also i think finally belive that they can beat Australia and maybe the bokkes not sure they belive they can beat ABs .But beating Australia in the summer and getting a series wn will definatly help that belief grow lol.I do hope Wales will get a series win this summer imo they have the players and now belief to do it

I think they'll take the series in Aus... prob 2-1. They've had another 5 games together now (compared to Aus, who won't have played together since the game in Dec) so they should be a better "team" than they were.. while Aus haven't really had any chance to develop as a unit.
Come June they'll have had a bit of a break, but not sure if they will help or hinder them... while Aus will almost certainly have a few injuries as we enter the business season of Super Rugby... On the other hand, the Aus players will be battle hardened... so not sure who will benefit from the timing of these games??
But if they don't then I'm not too bothered. As an AB fan, a win for Aus means the Southern dominance continues, and a win for Wales means I can laugh at Aus. Either way, it's all good.

I've been hugely impressed with the Welsh in this 6 Nations. Many of their players are just as young as ours (I'm an England supporter) and their coaching is excellent. As APV1 says, they don't just have a good 1st team, they have strength in depth. When they lost Warburton, the replacements were top quality. They played good attacking rugby most of the time.
They deserve alot of credit for what they've achieved. And as a consequence of that I strongly suspect - indeed I want - Gatland to coach the next Lions tour.
Hurts to say this but.... well done Wales.

When England won the World Cup it was as much about their relative strength and fitness as it was about their ability and you can see that in this Wales side. This Wales side has the potential to go on to greater things BUT there are still a couple of question marks.
1. They still need to get the SH monkey off their backs
2. Dare I say it about a Welsh side but they look a bit one-dimensional every play comes from big midfielders smashing through the gainline - This was neutralised by England (and Italy for about an hour) where are the running lines, the killer passes and the incisive running we used to see.
3. The opposition this 6N was indifferent to say the least we had squads still "running in" and squads who are clearly ready for trade-in. I'm not saying that they were poor or that Wales could do anything other than beat what was in front of them, but they need a good summer and Autumn to really put their credentials out there. Lets not forget that Wale's most recent grand slams have immediately followed the RWC cycle.
Just for the record, I'll say something similar about England when their SON comes up.

What Welsh bashin? As a none Welshman im looking forward to seeing how good this team can be. Im a bit fed up of seeing the same teams at the top of the game all the time and a bit of freshness is required.
