Hanno Dirksen: Over his injury worries

Ospreys wing Hanno Dirksen has revealed that he dreams of representing Wales at next year's World Cup.

South African-born Dirksen qualified to play for Wales through residency and is determined to make Wales boss Warren Gatland's squad before the global showpiece in England.

"If I were to write my goals out that would be top," Dirksen told Walesonline.

"It's any boy's dream to play international rugby, and to play in a World Cup would be the cherry on top.

"But you have to put in the foundation first and for me that involves getting in the Ospreys' team.

"There are a lot of good players on the wings at the club.

"Before I do anything I have to be playing regularly for the Ospreys.

"Hopefully, I can work on my weaknesses and become a good enough player for Wales to look at me."

Dirksen missed out on selection for Wales' tour to South Africa in June as he was battling to overcome long-term knee problems.

"I probably wasn't fit enough last season," he added.

"It would have been amazing to have gone back to SA, but I didn't think I was match-fit. That's probably what they were thinking also.

"I pulled my quad in January and that set me back another month, costing me game-time.

"But if can string a few matches together, play well, then hopefully Wales will consider me.

"My first goal for the season is to try to stay injury free. Injuries have been setting me back for the past 18 months, but I will try to get more game time in the campaign ahead.

"The knee is fine and I haven't had any problems with it."
