Amazing comeback: Matthew Rees

Wales and Cardiff Blues hooker Matthew Rees has his eyes set on making the squad for next year's Rugby World Cup after beating cancer.

Rees was given the all-clear in February after being diagnosed with testicular cancer last year, returning for the Blues' to a rousing reception in Saturday's triumph over Ulster.

The 33-year-old has 61 caps for Wales including 50 starts, his last appearance coming in the Six Nations loss to Ireland in Cardiff in 2013.

However Rees, inspired by the longevity of Wales props Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones, now has his mind set on making the World Cup - knowing that only top form will see him selected.

"An end goal of mine is hopefully try and make that World Cup squad," Rees told the BBC.

"That's down to me personally. It's [about] putting big performance back on the park and hopefully selection will look after itself then.

"You've got to take your hat off to Gethin and Adam. They're still playing international rugby and we know how tough international rugby is these days. Obviously Gethin's got a great record with a 105 caps and Adam's not far behind.

"But for me personally it's just about getting back on the park and enjoying my rugby and then everything else will look after itself."
