Mallet is hands down the best available canidate out there. Lancaster has zero experiance. O'Sullivan wasted a golden Irish generation. Mallet had proved he can work with talent in his Bok years before SA politics forced him out. He was proven he can work without talent with Italy. Its the talentless experiance that makes him the ideal canidate for England.

Dean Richards for me. Hard nosed edge and he's served his time (ban). If you haven't got the international coaching pedigree, then a track record of success in the Aviva Premiership and the Heineken Cup should definitely be considered. Whilst Stuart Lancaster has been a breath of fresh air so far, his previous experience with Leeds doesn't provide him with the same status.

It has to be Lancaster for me. Mallett wis a good coach but we don't want to be playing 10 man rugby do we??
How about Vern Cotter from Clermont Auvergne?

I've read whats been posted here with interest and found most of it to be very objective. My take on this is quite simple, this job is about here and now. Whilst Mallett has had significant experience with SA 1997-2000 he never won the RWC. Whilst we must not ge ageist he will be 56 next year.
To most of the young tyro's in the current England set up he's someone their Dad talks about. At the moment this young squad appear to believe in SL and his team, for me Lancaster has done what he said he would do so far.
As for Eddie O'Sullivan being considered !!! Oh please this guy had nothing good to ever say about England when he was coaching Ireland, I can think of a lot nicer and possibly less experienced people to give the RFU shilling to. Finally if the RFU had any balls they'd use Odgers out placement service to handle Rob Andrews removal from the business and take a massive step forward.
Got to go with Lancaster, its the right thing to do. Or bring Dean Richards back it you want a really hard edge around the England team.

Who on earth could possibly entertain Mallett as England Coach after his bizaare selections for Italy against England a couple of years ago, a wing forward at scrum half? I do not support Lancaster either and I think England were very lucky against Scotland and Italy but their loss to Wales underlines his inability to 'judge' a good player. Ireland should have won against Wales and were only thwarted by a completely wrong decision to penalise Ferris in front of the posts, In an unprecendented decision the disciplinary panel found no reason for Barnes to award the penalty and Ireland should have won!

Mallet is English despite his South African accent and upbringing!

Mallet I do like and I respect what he did for Italy but SL is the man! He's English. he knows a big bunch of our players from the saxons set up and he's doing all the right things so far...

Seems very strange in my eyes that his told he hasnt the experiance because he hasnt coached a leading -top leval nation ..N.Mallet hasnt either in recent years its been what 8-10 yrs since he was involved with the boks and the game has moved on since then big time its a complety differant game to my mindSo N.Mallet hasnt the rquired experiance either imo In fact going by that criteria you are limiting yourselves to M.Livermont or PDV or G.Henry As the only available coaches who have lcoached a major nation in recent years and to my knowlege none of them applied .While i would welcome G.Henry as the new EPD at the RFU to hopfully take our young talant to world class (something he might be interested in doing )building on R.Andrews system for indentifying and building talant at a young age .I would curl up and cry if the other 2 where made England coach( thank god they never applied)

"They were looking for someone with a higher international profile." - I hope not. We've had enough of big names and big egos. We want simplicity and honesty.
I'm not suggesting that NM isn't honest, just that I want a coach on merit, not reputation and name.
SL for coach!

Idon't know what way to jup on this one. I actually quite like old Timmy Mallet ( showing my age) Despite not winning much in Itally he took them form no hopers to at least creadable 6 nations team. However SL has done all the early stuff right. the question is when hes done all the obviuos stuff, sort the players out select on form build a defence, will he then have enough to keep going and build a world beating team by 2015. Too hard for me so i'm not betting on this one.
