Having been on the cusp of the All Blacks squad in the past, Ben Tameifuna is hoping that Steve Hansen will come calling in 2014.

The Chiefs prop was outstanding in Super Rugby last year and has continued that good form into the new season.

While the 22-year-old has time on his side, after training with New Zealand in 2012 there has been no involvement for Tameifuna in the national squad since.

Stating that representing the All Blacks was his dream, as opposed to moving to Europe on a big money contract, Tameifuna is happy to wait it out for now to keep on working at his game.

The tighthead impressively racked up six tries in the competition last year, but has focused on his work from ruck to ruck and feels the dedication is paying off.

"Obviously, I'm still working on my fitness and it's up to them whether they pick me or not," Tameifuna told AAP.

"I'll just keep doing what I'm doing until the opportunity comes to be in there.

"I'm just going to give it time. I'll still be knocking on the door for the end-of-year (tour) and, if they need a call-up for the June window or anything, I would take it with both hands.

"Right now, I'm just focusing on Super Rugby and getting the Chiefs the three-peat and trying to get back in the All Blacks' squad when I can. The dream is still open. I'll keep pushing for that.

"I've been focusing so hard on trying to get fit and hitting rucks and tackling that the tryline hasn't been a factor for me. Nailing my core role is one of the main things I want to look after this year."
