Ruled out: Luke Romano

Crusaders second row Luke Romano will play no part for New Zealand in next month's Test series against England due to injury.

Romano broke his ankle in the heavy 57-29 win over the Reds on Sunday.

The 28-year-old left Suncorp with his leg in a cast, with a definite timeframe on his return yet to be confirmed.

It leaves the All Blacks with Sam Whitelock, Dominic Bird, Brodie Retallick and other outside candidates available to face Stuart Lancaster's side.

''It's a real blow for Luke. He's had one of those mixed seasons...he started slowly and then had a calf injury. And now he's had an opportunity he's broke an ankle," Blackadder told Fairfax Media.

"'He's pretty resilient and he'll come back from this.''
