Piri and Ali there for back up if the rookies don't make it - smart thinking. Will Aaron Smith be big enough for Int rugby? Is Brodie experienced enough? Zac must be the luckiest selection with Jane and Kahui out injured and Gear not favoured. Still, Ireland will need their top game to score their first win.

why is carter starting? he hasnt been kicking much for crusaders has he? I think Ireland need to shut down the centres, and target carter if they want to win this game. I fear Savea and SBW will destroy our defense unless we target them in defense. Also think we should target the lineout, and take every penalty given to us, if we want any chance to win. C'mon Irelandd

Looking very good. Nice balance of experience with young talent. Happy.

That side would have looked so much stronger with either an H. Gear or ideally A. Taylor replacing Z. Guildford. Ireland if they have any brains will bombard the crap out of Guildford with high balls during the match, turn him around and chase hard on defence as he can't beat a man one on one so his countering ability from that position is useless.

I also worry about what happens if we get an injury in midfield. Ben Smith is certainly no centre at this stage no matter how much they talk him up.

From a NZ point of view, my main concern would be that Guildford & Savea were not picked for the their tactical kicking, so that gives an idea of the NZ approach, but any less than accurate kicks will be eagerly swallowed up by Kearney, the best player I have seen in recent memory under the high ball. It's also hard to see what impact Williams brings off the bench, given he's had virtually no impact all year. Would have thought either he starts, or he doesn't play.

From an Irish point of view, I struggle to see how a front row without Ross, a second row without O'Connell, and a back row without Ferris and an international-class 7 can win the forwards battle, and there lies the rub.

Got to say that is one hell of a 22 ,Ireland are going to have to play excepionally well and out of their skins imo if they hope to nick this match .Myself cant see them doing so ,but upsets happen

If the weather is wet Ireland has a chance in this first test. Dry weather and the odds of Ireland victory change a little bit. Either way I dont write Ireland off at all which Im sure Hansen, McCaw and co arent either.

It's a pity that Ireland are missing their 3 best forwards... I would have been very interested to see how Aaron smith would have coped if the AB pack was forced i t a dogfight.

I imagine the ABs will stutter to an unsatisfactory win as per usual in the season's 1st test, then a 2nd test blow out and maybe an underachieving win in the 3rd...
