Congratulations to Kirwan,Hansen and Smith for their honours all well deserved but it didn't stop there. Also recognised were Mike Eagle chair of NZRFU and John Sturgeon former President and administrator and Richie Guy former All Black prop, former Chairman of both Northland an NZRFU and a leading light in the establishment of Sanzar. All awarded an ONZM . Lets not forget John Lockyer from Feilding a former Wellington and Manawatu referee and trainer of NZ referees a QSM for services to rugby refereeing. Perhaps it is he we should blame or praise for training so many cheating and dodgy referees. Shame on the Queen for not checking with the man from Queeensland, who knows so much about the art of rugby refereeing, before handing out such awards. Congratulations to all.

Good for Kirwan, well-deserved. This side of his life probably little known outside NZ, he has fronted advertising campaigns and written extensively about depression, and was made an Officer of The New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2007 for his efforts in mental health.
Quote:'I'm certainly proud of the rugby stuff I've achieved but the work that I'm continuing to do with mental health is a very strong part of my life.''
