Unnecessary drama: Bryan Habana

Toulon winger Bryan Habana has issued a public apology for his soccer-style dive in Saturday's Heineken Cup Final against Saracens.

The veteran Springbok speedster theatrically flopped to the ground after taking a slight bump to the shoulder from Owen Farrell in an attempt to milk a penalty from referee Alain Rolland.

Saracens captain Steve Borthwick could be heard shouting "embarrassing, embarrassing" in Habana's direction.

It not the first time that Habana has gone over the top in recent weeks with his demonstrations to the match officials. A week earlier, in the Top 14 semi-final against Racing, he turned his back on the action and almost missed seeing team-mate Matt Giteau score as he flapped his arms about at the touch judge after being shoulder charged off course by his opposite number Juan Imhoff.

On Sunday, Habana used his twitter account to apologise to fans for his antics.

"So before anything.. Apologies in every way and to the whole community for happened in the Heineken Cup final yesterday... It was in no way intended with malice or to bring the game into disrepute," Habana tweeted.

"Sportsmanship and integrity are key factors to what makes rugby so special and I let myself, the fans, our opponents and the game down. Hopefully it didn't take away from what was a fantastic spectacle and even more so a special victory for @RCTOfficiel."
