Jacques Potgieter: Back with Blue Bulls

Five members of the Springbok squad that returned from New Zealand on Monday have been released to play for their provinces in the Currie Cup.

The released players were all part of the 28-man squad that played Australia and New Zealand on consecutive weekends in the Rugby Championship, but were not part of the matchday 22 that faced the All Blacks in Dunedin on Saturday.

They are Craig Burden (Sharks), Frans Malherbe (Western Province), Jacques Potgieter (Blue Bulls), Jano Vermaak (Blue Bulls) and Lwazi Mvovo (Sharks).

The sixth player that was not part of the matchday 22 in Dunedin, Pat Cilliers (Golden Lions), is currently injured and not available for selection this weekend.

A Springbok squad of 30 players for the final two Tests in the Rugby Championship - against Australia at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria (on September 29) and New Zealand at Soccer City in Soweto (October 6) - will be announced at the conclusion of Currie Cup action on Saturday.

The squad will convene in Johannesburg on Sunday evening to start preparations for the Tests against Australia and New Zealand.

Based on last weekends Currie Cup matches and Super Rugby form I hope to see Springbok call ups for Tim Whitehead and Anton Bresler along with re-calls for Aplon, Brussouw and Werner Kruger. I think it's too early for Taute, Willie le Roux, Steven Kitshoff and Sarel Pretorious. Despite his performance on Saturday I think it's fair to say HM won't select Keegan Daniel.

I suppose I had unreasonable expectations to see Morne Steyn and Zane Kirchner on this list

Welcome return for Jacque Potgieter and Jano Vermaak to blue bulls! Hopefully these two players can add some urgency and energy to a lacklustre blue bulls team.
