ya @ the moment not really keen on HM style of play, also there's no plan B, there4 it might work against small teams but when the boks play Aussie or NZ it will be a different ball game. Boks plan B must be to keep the ball in hand instead of kicking it...

Very good article Cobus. It is good getting feedback from ex players - especially comments re scrum infringements and who is causing them.

Still feel 15 points start is unrealistic in AB vs Wannabee game, ABs do not score tries in 2nd 1/2 vs good sides even though they play a fast tempo game - why is this??

You lot can say what you like but Cobus is right on this score.... the AB's were a class above even though the score didnt reflect it. Having said that it was some pretty average fare dished up by a Wallaby team that has serious class amongst its backline.... the bad kicking, dropped passes, running from crazy places etc...

Also true about the Boks... i am expecting a serious wake up call against the AB's as this current crop and by extension its coach are showing a penchant for conservertism in all aspects ( including selection) that will come back to bite them.

2 tries, 1st phase, straight off the scrum is a lot Trinats.

Even if Beale was in position in the first try, Dagg would have drawn and pass, the second try they were out flanked via extra man via strong scrum, it would be very worrying if NZ conceded tries like that.. it's bad enough there were missed tackles to let Sharpe score.

Dudes right!! Just finished my 18th season of rugby! (NZ, England & Japan) & I will always remember how gratifying it is for players to score from set pieces. Its what you train repeatedly for! yet it is always a big surprise when your set moves actually work he he. Beale didn't gift anything he was the last link in a chain of events. Fullback never calls or sets the defensive line! he just made average decisions which all players make every so often. You can train defence but you cannot train for match situations! when you add athletes to the mix its potent! that is often why we recognise a bad decision during a match..they make a 100 good decisions, yet we always remember the 1 or 2 bad things they do.I wouldn't dis a player Kurtley's pedigree he would be hurting himself! Yet he has a chance to rectify that this weekend. Yes the Scoreline was close but the game wasn't! AB's were very inaccurate,as were Aussie! but I believe the AB's had far more oppurtunities to score. Anyways here's to a good game this weekend

very well written and I could not agree more with most of the points.

only thing I'll disagree with is the result in Mendoza, Argies by 7.

@PREEST... Argentina better than Scotland? I don't think so! They only just managed to beat us at the world cup, and that was before we had the likes of Visser, Hogg, Laidlaw, Scott and Denton in the side. If Scotland played Argentina tomorrow on neutral ground, we'd beat them quite comfortably.

PREEST, Scotland are certainly not far behind Argentina, a narrow RWC2011 loss was preceded by Scotland going to ARG and scoring an historic 2-0 series win. As for wins over SA I've been present to see them do it twice in the last 10 years and come helluva close in 2008 too. It says more about the way SA approach playing away to the "minnows" in my mind and they could slip up here too.

trinats - speaking of ghost writers spewing - who writes yours?

really, the excuses are flowing aren't they, across the board we've had just about everything from the soap opera that is the Wallabies.

Face it - beaten. Not unlucky, if there was any luck it was that there wasn't 50 scored against them.

Cobus - yes the first phase moves by the ABs were great to watch, engieered by back coach Foster, and you have wonder why SA persist with their tedious up and unders when they have players with speed and skill. There is no joy in their play and less joy watching them.

Trinats - the only thing close in Sydney was the score. Unless Aus can find something new in Akl the Abs will run away with it.

A bit of a mixed bag of a coloum this week.,True about the ABs dominance,nd precision on 1st phase, and also good for someone whos actually faced the wallaby scrum ,to say what we all know for once. The whole wallaby team had a shocker last weekend really ,and they will be better this weekend ,but then so will the ABs .and you cant really see anyting but a New Zealand victory at Eden park As to the Springboks ,i feel his been a tad generous in his praise ,yes they where more dynamic going forward ,but then they are alot bigger mostly.,and that is what got them the win, last weekend.Still a very limited gameplan ,which shows little creativity or invention, and it could cost them this weekend ,as once Argentina setteled in the 2nd half ,they equaled the bokke on the pitch imo.Kirchner still looks out of depth at FB,and his waywad kicking again could cost them dear, given the pace of the pumas backline.HM has a very long way to go imo ,to turn this bokke team into any kind of challanger for BILL in 2015

PREEST says...

Argentina will push the boks when they play in Mendoza this weekend. Just think back a few years when the boks lost to the Scotts in Scotland. Argentina are a far better side than Scotland and they have a lot to play for this weekend. The two tries that the Boks scored in the first half of the first test were soft, and come off of Argentina mistakes and giving possession away. Expect a far closer encounter in Mendoza this weekend.

"Although it will not be that critical against Argentina this coming weekend"

"I would have hoped that they would have used these two Test matches to prepare for the challenge ahead."

"Once again this will not be critical this weekend"

I really hope the Pumas win this weekend...

"Conversely the Aussies are going to suffer even greater humiliation in the second Bledisloe Cup game in Auckland"

... and even though I'm an AB supporter, this is a bit presumptious... I'd hardly call what happened last Sat a "humiliation"... and I very much doubt it will be a humiliation this weekend either.

Cobus, do you actually read what your ghost writer spews out prior to print ?

"from my point of view was the All Blacks' ability to penetrate the Wallaby defence from first-phase moves"

Are you serious ? twice in the game Beale gifted them 14 points (ABs only won by 8, and 3 were after the hooter), and that was it from the "first-phase moves" !!!

My eight year old knows how to defend and was able to pointed out that Beale's body positioning was wrong on both tries. I explained he hadn't played in a while and wasn't match fit ( he is still trying to come to terms about a professional not being fit ) any advice ?
