So many areas for the Boks to improve.... beginning with selection and ending over whitewash.
i would have Alberts as my 8 when Vermeulen isnt around - he is a 8 thru and thru, big strong driving ball carrier who is tall enough to man the back of the lineout. Spies is just not effective enough.
Marcell Coetzee certainly plays in the same manner as Schalk - a throw your entire body around like a ragdoll until it breaks ( which it will soon cause he doesnt have schalks huge frame) Kolisi is more my flavour as is Brussouw... plenty of room for these guys !
So surprised at how anonymous Etzebeth was, really thought he would turn up the heat and break tackles as he has done all year so far. Hougie is a bit wasted at 9 but that dont make Ruan "flapper" Pienaar the answer, that guy is just plain slow and mentally fragile - Hougaard would always be on my team sheet though - he has got real X factor something we lack currently.
Morne..... i have a soft spot for Morne as he has performed heroics with the boot before BUT if he doesnt get the points he is as pointless as the hair on your arse. Lambie is overated but still the guy to take us forward at 10.
Quite happy with the Front Row altho they all could learn to protect the ball in contact a whole lot better.
Tactics.... rubbish. Skop en Donder.... how long have we been at this ?? The Cheetahs have shown that we can be as creative and brilliant to watch as anyone in the world and the Stormers have shown that we can defend like our lives depended on it week in and week out - put the two together and you have a real recipe to be No. 1 - screw just beating the poms - i want to see us pants the ABs - something we will never do with these conservative tactics.

Zane Kirchner is a joke

If you add the total scores of both S.Africa and England ,you find its 106 to 101 in S.Africas favour .Which i think is a fair reflection of the match overall.1st half fairly even ,but i think England just edged it ,but 2nd half was the bokkes definatly .Came out guns blazing ,and caught England unprepard for the onslaught ,and they didnt cope well with the intensity shown by an obvious pumped up Bokkes side.Still a very good game by both sides ,and the most competative of last weekend imo.Lets hope the 2nd test is just as good ,but as an englishman i would like the score to be reversed from last weekend obviously lol

@ Bosvark: I don't think you paid attention to what I was saying before the game. I wasn't supporting England, I was saying that the first test is theirs to lose - for the reasons I gave (such as the Boks being uncohesive). So my argument was that if England came with their A-game, then I thought they would win the first game. Well, they didn't come with their A-game (the game that beat France at home and Ireland 30-9 at Twickenham) - and they lost. But it still wasn't a run-away victory for the Boks, so if England did show up with their A-game, then they could've won that game.
However, making such a statement/argument does not mean I'm supporting England. At no point did I say I was supporting the English - because I wasn't.
I really wish some of you guys (like "new j4all, etc.) would stop being so trigger-happy and become so defensive every time I say something that just SEEMS like it's against your beliefs and then attack me without even reading what I wrote or trying to understand it.

Who is rating this or just making things up. Spies 7 and frans Steyn 6. Spies no where to be seen, Steyn every where smashing over advantage line time after time gets a 6 and tilapia gets 7. Tuilagi deserves a six but never a 7, boks love players running straight into contact with no imagination. They will have him all day everyday with that approach.
Steyn game is to smash through and off load or set up second phase, did everything that was asked of him especially first time out with boks coming back from France!!!
Come guys take a closer look.

I'm glad PR pointed out Coetzee's absence at the break-down. I counted eight turn-overs conceded at the rucks in the first twenty minutes. I personally feel he is the most over rated player in the squad and I hope he does not get selected again.

Also, I still cannot understand this hype over Ruan Pienaar... is it just sharks supporters. The guy is incredibly slow. The expression on his face - it looks like he's trying to count to ten and just never getting there. He's not an international player.
We must also consider the Stormers do not score tries... it's a fact. Are Gio and Joe the right guys to trigger our backline...? Lambie should def be there, but maybe Gio off the bench...

You put Jannie in your team of the week but only give him 6/10 here?
I also think Coetzee had a storming game - especially running the ball. always over the game line.

Great appointment with Jean De Williers. He will path the way for Bismarck.

JayStarr! Wich way is the sea flowing for your soutballas now? Just wondering, because of your thread before the game. It must be difficult to have one foot in SA and one foot in the uk.

Spies got a 7? Tbh thought both him and Morgan were anonymous throughout. Seems only keiran read knows how to play 8 these days.

If Gio Aplon and Joe Pietersen weren't left out, I would've loved to see Meyer change the 8-9-10 axis from Spies, Hougaard and Steyn to Keegan Daniel, Ruan Pienaar and Patrick Lambie... But then there wouldn't be a suitable replacement for Kirchner, so let's just say put Lambie at 15 for the next test... Just get him on the field.

I think SAf looked a lot more at ease with the intensity. Not much better other than at hooker but just comfortable whereas England looked new to it. Their S15 clashes may well have been better preparation than England's time off. And the experienced guys who are used to NZ and Oz games would have enjoyed the game and settled quicker. Counter to common opinion I think England will be the improving team having experienced the intensity many for the first time.

I don't rate Kirchner as an international fullback. He buckles under pressure, which England did not exploit at all. Pietersen is not having the best of seasons, although I appreciate the fact that he looked for work at the break downs in what was a quiet match from him. JDV and F. Steyn are the right combination at centre, I believe. Jean is looking very sharp, although Frans looked a bit out of sorts not having played with his team mates for a long time. Bryan Habana is looking very good in deed. Thoroughly deserves his place in the team. Morne' Steyn was ok and I believe we will see a much better kicking performance in the next match from him. Hougaard was slow in producing the ball and had me swearing like a sailor when he decided to tap and go right in front of the posts when SA was awarded a penalty. Pierre Spies is clearly not in form and needs to step aside for someone who deserves it more. Willem Alberts was a monster! Marcell Coetzee needs to get to the break downs quicker, England had all the time in the world to recycle the ball. Juandre' Kruger and Eben Etzebeth will need some time to shape into international locks. I believe they can become great players in their own right. Jannie du Plessis and Tendai Mtawarira looked ok, although they will have to be more dominating in the scrums if we are going to strive for quality ball form our own scrums. Bismarck is a legend in the making. The man is all over the park. Long may his reign last. All in all not a bad performance from both teams. England definately came to play rugby and not just put up a show. They looked physical and sure of what they wanted to do. Stuart Lancaster has my respect and may just be one of the best things to happen to English Rugby in a long time. Bring on the second test!!

Don't quite know why Franz Steyn only got a 6, while JDV got 8. Steyn was the main reason Tuilagi could only get through half of the centre pairing when he went on a rampage.

Hopefully a couple of changes at 15, 14, 10 & 6 or next week with Pietersen, Aplon, Lambie and Brussouw coming in to have a nice balanced team.

Comment for Wynand Olivier would have been the same even if he'd played for longer! Lol
