@bloemboy I seem to remember Lambie doing a great job at full back for the sharks and for the boks at the world cup, he may prefer 10 but he can play at 15...
While De Villiers started as an outside centre, majority of his games for the stormers has been at 12 with De Jongh playing 13...and almost all of his games for the boks have been at 12 along side number 13 Jaque Fourie....
Keegan Daniel played most of his games at flank for the sharks and has only recently switched to 8...
as you said Alberts can play at 8...
The reason why I have suggested Daniel play the fetcher role is because he can and there is no Brussow, I would prefer Alberts at 8 rather than Spies because Alberts tackles better, works harder and is better at the break down.... De Villiers is an excellent 12, reads the game well and has such good hands.... but I agree with you that F. Steyn has been great at 12 so it's a tough call....
Interestingly enough Frans Steyn also never started at 12 but only ended up playing there because of Jean De Villiers' injury in the 2007 world cup.
We are blessed with players who can do the job in a number of positions....
Bring on the 9th, will be interesting to see our starting 15, I'm sure we can compare notes again :)

@Dybull, Lambie is a far better 10 and it is his stated preference, deVilliers is an outside centre and Daniel is an 8, Alberts is also a flank, though he has some experience at 8

@bloemboy besides Habana (who actually started his career at 13) exactly which 4 players have I put 'out of position'?

bloemboy says...
@Dybull, are you nuts? 15 Pieterson, 14 Mvovo 13 de Villiers, 12 F Steyn, 11 Habana, 10 Lambie, 9 Hougaard, 8 Daniel, 7 Alberts, 6 Brussouw, 5, Kruger, 4 Etzbeth, 3 du Plessis, 2 Strauss, 1 Beast
Bench, Du Plessis, Oosthuisen, Kruger, Coetzee / Ashley Johnston, van der Merwe, Ruan Pienaar, Aplon
Your suggestion of playing 4 players out of position is crazy. I know that I have put in a number of players that didnt make the squad, but there just arent options available within the squad to field a decent team. the fact that the only decent fetcher in the squad is Daniel means that he must play, HM has ignored the fact that Brussouw has had to remodel his game this season and has one of the highest tackle counts in super rugby. Difficult to be a fetcher when you are tied up so effectively within the defensive pattern. Including him though leaves our lineout short of options. Ashley Johnston is the best sub impact player around and changes the game every time.

my apologies, Engelbrecht is an out and out 13

Somebody needs to advice the Boks coach that this is an international match not an extended S15 Bulls game.
What a laugh
- Kirchner over Daniller, Viljoen or Petersen.
- Steym over Lambie or Grant
- Olivier over de Jong
and the list goes on.
What's Meyer trying to do, retain his job at the Bulls?

as a bulls fan I have to say that I am very disappointed that De Jongh, Brussow and Aplon have not been selected.
We do not have an out and out number 13, unless he is thinking of playing JP Pietersen or Habana there. Baffled by the decision to include Olivier who has been the weakest 12 out of all the SA S15 teams.
At loose forward it's a tough call, we have so much depth there that good players were bound to be left out.
Kankowski and Vermaak's inclusion is a shocker!
Having said all that, lets wait to see what happens.
It seems like HM is looking for the win first and foremost.
I do believe he has a short term plan and a long term plan that will hopefully include more of our flair players.
Brussow will be sorely missed though, I think he would have really hurt the English at the break down, although maybe Keegan Daniel will be our fetcher.
My preferred starting XV:
15. Lambie 14.Mvovo 13. Habana 12. De Villiers (c) 11. Basson 10. M Steyn 9. Hougaard 8. Alberts 7. Coetzee 6. Daniel 5. Kruger 4. Etzebth 3. J Du Plessis 2. B Du Plessis 1. Beast

@pikes: '78% of all Cape Coloureds support the All Blacks...you have your answer now and you've lost another 5%' I'd like to know where you get those statistics from to see if it's true or if you just pulled random numbers out of a hat.
@smarty: Your analysis is based on assumptions. But apart from the injured Stormers players he could not select who would you have picked from Saturdays game?

Juan de Jongh is the best center in South African rugby and still he cant make the Springbok squad...HM has the chance to choose Coloured and Black players on MERIT but he chooses player like Kirchner and Relephele thats doesnt even compare to the likes of aplon,de jongh and kolisi ...Peter Grant is the best Flyhalf in SA (statistics show that ) and still he doesnt make the squad. To the South African Rugby Bosses : If you wondered why 78% of all Cape Coloureds support the All Blacks...you have your answer now and you've lost another 5%. Stormers4Life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I agree with Most of philipjfry's personal selection sometimes you need to step out of the detail and recognise that our new coach just selected a bunch of Vaalies who's family and friends he has braai's with on Friday afternoons. That alone really grates me more than individual selections. The majority of our team is made up of the bulls who simply do not have the top squad in SA. They get beaten by the stormers and by the better aussie and kiwi sides. Whats worse is we will fail in the WC without creativity in play...lose and lose again

All the bok supporters here need to change their attitude!
HM is the man to sort the Boks out. He's in no mans land and playing safe. He will need time to figure his team out. You can't expect him to throw in a whole new set of players against the English and injure quality players paving their way in the S15!
The enemy's the poms - not our boys.
Get a grip! Get behind your team! BOKKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, following 24 hours of deliberation this is the team I think Meyer will pick:
15 - Kirchner 14 - Basson 13 - Olivier 12 - de Villiers 11 - Habana 10 - M. Steyn 9 - Hougaard 8 - Spies (c) 7 - Alberts 6 - Potgieter 5 - Flip v/d Merwe 4 - Etzebeth 3 - J. du Plessies 2 - B. du Plessies 1 - Beast. Ralepelle, Oosthuizen, J. Kruger, Coetzee, Pienaar, Lambie, F. Steyn.
My team (excluding overseas and injured players) : 15 - Kirchner 14 - Basson 13 - de Jongh 12 - de Villiers (c) 11 - Habana 10 - M. Steyn 9 - Hougaard 8 - Spies 7 - Alberts 6 - Brussouw 5 - Kruger 4 - Etzebeth 3 - J. du Plessies 2 - B. du Plessies 1 - Beast. Strauss, Oosthuizen, Sykes, Daniel, McLeod, Lambie, Aplon.
Had Bekker been fit I would have included him and Sykes would have dropped out. Personally, I think Kolisi offers far more than D. Vermeulen and J. Pietersen is way too cautious despite an obvious attacking flair. Same can be said for Lambie, who is better suited to 10. I wouldn't pick Coetzee if my life depended on it, the Sharks can never hold onto their own ball and as the open-side he is responsible for protecting it from being turned-over. Had Plumtree played Daniel at 6, Kankowski at 8 and McLeod/Lambie the Sharks would have been much better off. C'est tout.

Kolisi in the place of Kankowski, Peter Grant should be in the team at the expense of Elton Jantjies, Zane Kirchner is way too one-dimensional. Joe Pietersen must be wondering what he must do to impress the selectors?? JP Pietersen is not looking good at all. I would've considered another utility player like Willie le Roux or Gio Aplon. Joshua Strauss and Ashley Johnson also deserved a chance in the national team, although I'm not sure there would've been space for another set of loosies.

Kakovski, JP (the wrong Pieterson), Wynand Olivier, Pierre Spies, Zane Kirchner ? These guys have been tried at test level and apart from the variable Spies (he look like Tarzan he play like Jane!) have all failed to make an impact. Leaving out Brussow is interesting??!! Its when you look at our injuries that you get worried about true dependable depth - no Juan, Schalk, Bekker etc; that is when you need the likes of Brussow to step up to the plate. Luckily it is only a weakened English side also - I hear that they are also missing a few from 4-8? I'm also worried about kicking the ball away to their backs who are looking quite good at counter attack. Luckily our backs are looking good.

Mixed feelings. New fresh air was needed, unsure about Brussow's omission. Overall, it is a squad with too many Bulls, who are currently the third best team in SA.

I think after englands embarrasing effort in the world cup they really got their shit together in the 6n & are looking a very good prospect at the moment, I think they have something to prove. This will be a very interesting series I will not cast a vote on this one as it will be a wait & see deal!!
