I do feel VM would be making a big mistake comming back .To my mind he just isnt needed ,and it would be a bad retro step for the bokkes.Ifeel the bokkes have good locks already in A.Brekker,E.Etezbeth,J.Kruger and J.Mullhar (at Ulster) .Also as already posted by many they have alot of experianced players who could be captain ,i just dont see any reason for his return .

@abrad - Good to see you around these parts again! I think that whilst there are a lot of positives to take out of England's 6N campaign there's still a long, hard slog ahead of the team; both players and management are not very far along a fairly steep learning curve. This tour is an opportunity to get a lot of guys, especially some of the younger and more fringe players (thinking of the midweek teams), some decent experience, and that should be it as far as I'm concerned. Whilst I think that England could be capable of beating the Boks it isn't what should be concentrated on (even the most rabid England fan should have learnt the pitfalls of concentrating on results over performances now!), and I whilst there will undoubtedly be new players and little time to integrate them for the Boks, there is some serious talent available. Johan Goosen and Marcell Coetzee have impressed me no end, as has Matfield's heir apparent Juandre Kruger. Several of the backs for the Stormers against the Crusaders stood out too.

Back in the republic it's not that easy. Some if not most South African fans are very passionate about their rugby almost fanatically so. They dont like loosing, they want results and they want them now. One lose and it's of with his head be it the ref, the couch or the selectors and the press wont help much ether. Give the guy a chance to get his foot in the door. I would bet that he is going to have more than one team play this tour I would bet his going to let all the guys that were at the camps have a go and then decide who he wants. But what ever he does he better make sure they win or else there is going to be allot of fingers pointing in allot of directions

Boks have had the best 2nd row in World rugby for several years. That experience is required for a transition period in some form or another. Torn a bit on this one, on the one hand it is essential to beat England for a good start, on the other hand Matfield will not make it to next world cup so next generation need to get going.

Are we talking about just England or is he going to play in the 4n's too? Thats a completely different kettle of fish. I'm English and I know where my team stands in the global game. SA are massive favs, but playing NZ and Aus in their own backyards is completely different.
Victor, haven't you learnt anything from the whole Martin Johnson episode? You're a legend, follow in John Eales footsteps and don't give the media the chance to put the boot in. They will be on you like a pack of wolves at the first opportunity. It's in their nature.

Well if that's all you've got I don't think we have to worry! I'd back our young, inexperienced players against a bunch of old men anytime! Roll on the tour! What have England got to lose - young team, expected to lose and away from home! Couldn't be better! This is the start of England's return to the top of rugby - you heard it here first!

You're a kidding me? What a stupid mistake that would be. I consider him one of the all time greats but he's 34 & hasn't being playing any Rugby. The tour is in like 7 weeks.

In the backroom yes, not on the field. He's a known quantity whereas the young guys are going to pack more in attack and have the legs, big difference between fit and match-fit. And Bakkies was at least half of that partnership. Surprised this is even being considered, not sending out a great message.

I agree with you Wallaroo but there is allot of senior players that are still in the game. Why bring someone back from retirement. What do they call someone that says his going to do something & then don¿t? Maybe I¿m just being a bit negative here. I can see a pattern with what is happening and I think I might have an idea what Meyer is up to. Keeping in mind that Rassie is also involved. What I recon is that Heyneke wants to use the upcoming England tour as a springboard to give the young players an opportunity to gain experience and to ¿strut their stuff¿ on a international level and help him make up his mind on a set team that he can work on developing towards the next WC (I hope). This explains the extended tour and bringing back a few old players.

Is the current talent pool, injuries included, currently that shallow in SA? There have been a few guys I've seen in S15 that look promising, would it not be better to blood them on home turf against a mathematically inferior opposition now?

Epic fail from Heyneke Meyer already...and he hasn't even faced one test yet. Can't believe I'm going to say this..but I'm missing PDivvy already. At least he combined his stupid decisions with rugby comedy.
