Glasgow and Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg appears set to the miss the November Internationals after undergoing surgery.
Hogg, the youngest member of the British and Irish Lions squad that toured Australia earlier this year, has had an operation on a wrist injury.
The Scotland star picked up the knock in Glasgow's recent win over Leinster in the RaboDirect Pro12, but his club had hoped to have him back for this weekend's Heineken Cup trip to champions Toulon.
However with the damage proving worse than initially realised, Scotland coach Scott Johnson does not expect Hogg to be involved next month.
"Are we counting Hoggy out of the Autumn Tests? Yeah, probably," Johnson told the Daily Telegraph.
"There is a chance that he might make a game but that is unlikely. However, this is just a chance to blood someone else."
Fellow full-back Peter Murchie will also face a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.
