Quite right NHsaints, a good statistician feels warm while his head is in the freezer and his feet in the oven... Stats help coaching though, so they say...

Got to say that it's interesting how sometimes stats don't show what sides are capable of...take for example England who had some of the worst stats and yet finished a very close second...shall I tell you why? Because of how they capitalise on what they make so well...you can't put that into stats except for wins to losses.

@ Ed, great stuff. any chance of getting any individual player stats, such as who made the msot carries, who carried the most yards, who made the most tackles, mistakes etc?

@ Ed - I've asked on the England State of the Nation thread about the red and yellow card stats. Could you do a comparsion from this 6N to the last couple? It seemed fairly sporting, over-all, with most penalties being technical infringements, rather than foul play. Thanks!

Can I make a recommendation with regard to the statistics? I feel more comparisons between facts like 'passes made' and 'line breaks' and possession would more clearly show differences between teams.
For example, if you were to say Team A made 5 line breaks and Team B made 4 line breaks, you could conclude that they were pretty much equally good at attacking. However, if Team A have 90% of the possession then clearly Team B were vastly better at attacking, it's just that they didn't have much of the ball.
Another interesting statistic I'd like to see would be 'Average meters gained on a line break'. This would give us information about how well teams capitalise on a line break.
