3pm European time would have been two hours before the Italy England game, so both games could have been seen.

Times mentioned are local, not GMT.

To all those blaming the 6Ns committe lets get things clear they are not responable for ensuring a place to play and a safe pitch that is totally down to the FFRand they wasted a whole week to take the proper action so the game could be played .Also the pandering to the french tv network in the 1st place was stupid 9pm kick off come on why not 5pm just after the Italy-England game .As to the tv networks offer to televise it at 3pm that was made on the day far to late to tell the other broacasters who had paid for a live match with legal contracts signed ect and it clahed with the Italy -England game so that was a non starter for 3pm The blame and more importantly the responabilty is totally the FFRs .Now this request because it conflicts with the top 14 what a joke if France wont / cant play in March then the points should go to Ireland full stop ARROGANCE and HUBRIS on a grand scale imo by the FFR and LNR .No thought for the supporters of both nations at all

@ bluelion - don't be daft! That was an entirely different situation. The Foot and Mouth endemic was threatening to wipe out the UK's (and beyond) farming industry and needed unusual and emergency action.

I'm hoping your comment was a case of your foot in your mouth, rather than a serious opinion.

@Bambo

I'm not knocking the "French" and never do (I am not a French basher like you make out and have been in France many times) but the French officials who on Wednesday at least should have made a hard decision as they had all the information they needed to cancel

Gents

all this was was a cleverly edited article designed to stoke the fires and give the anti french lobby here a reason to keep posting IMHO.

Fact is they asked for the opinion of when they would like the game to be played and they gave an honest answer. This nether meant that this is what they were going to do or would ever be allowed to do either.

The only comment of any value in this article that amounts to useful information was, 'After Tuesday's committee meeting Laurans said that there were two options on the table: Saturday 3 March at 18:00 (local time) or Sunday 4 March at 16:15.'

Subsequently we know that one of these dates have been selected.

RE the pitch, no doubt it should have been rescheduled to the 3pm kick off as offered by the tv networks but rejected wholly by the 6N committee whose sole decision this was.

regarding refunds, its only too right that they are offering to reinburse peoples ticket costs, refunding travel expenses!? what kind of idiot suggests the FFR are responsible for that? Any such dubious refunding should come from the 6N committee if at all since they wanted the late kick off to maximise money making and refused the later offer of an earlier kick off so the match could go ahead.

I also commend Pearson for a brave decision, not my fave ref by some margin, he could have bottled it and let the game go on, someone gets a nasty injury due to ice then we would be up in arms about it, so the correct decision was made.

@blametheref

I think it would be fair to let Ireland host the match (although we know what's happening now). If the FFR cannot provide a venue and do not want the game played soon, then I would have liked to see it here.

Obviously, an Irish fan here so one take from it what one will.

Like i said, mix it up and reschedule ALL european domestic and rugby to avoid 6N and WC games. The southern hemisphere do it so why must club rugby suffer over here. Its ridiculous and needs a long term solution.

@Kevin83

You're right, but this stadium has a different system to evacuate the excess of water - therefore the only reason for it having under heating would have been in case of excess cold.

Dunno about the weather in Paris... I live in London! ;) I only know the temperatures have risen again to descent values so let's hope on the 4th of March there won't be any more issue related to the weather.

@DaveJ I'm an Irish fan? From Dublin.

My reasoning for the draw is it isn't exactly the French problem either. It's a total mess up involving several parties, okay, nothing to do with Ireland but to be honest, if you asked me would we take a draw in Paris I'd take your hand off. Also if the 6N committee offered a draw on the table you can bet France WILL play the game, albeit with a 2nd or 3rd string side.

(Which we'd probably lose as well..)

Kevin83 says...

Axax - Under soil heating does not only have to be used for frozen pitches.

The heat rises from under the pitch and help evaporate any excess water preventing the pitch from becoming water logged and flood. The main reason the majority of stadia have it installed.

Now last time I checked it does rain in Paris right?

Blue Lion: "Ireland do have form of late for moving 6-N games to September."

What a ridiculous statement. That was over 10 years ago and was caused by an epidemic which treat to wipe out both the UK and Irelands agriculture. Which also, if you're interested, originate in England.

Idiot

This is crazy, why should the FFR get their way, tough luck that it clashes with their domestic programme, this was not Irish officials screwing up but French officials. Ireland have already lost the battle here in not insisting on next weekend and that if no pitch was available in France that the game should be played in the Aviva in Dublin, don't know why they didn't go this route?

@Axax,... I disagree with you 100%,... the issue here, is under pitch heating,.. if you have this,. the pitch does not get frozen,.. games can be played.

That is madness so we'd have to wait to find who wins until September!! Just so the bloody Top 14 can make more money. Well excuse me but f**k the FFR and that bloated swine Camou!

Posted 15:47 14th February 2012

Axax says...

Well, for once I fully agree with Camou.

The 6N committee is fully responsible for this disaster. They were offered the opportunity to move forward the game, but they refused... I guess too much money was involved. But in the end everybody lost something.

Normally the FFR should be responsible for providing a suitable ground for the game, ok. But hey, here the weather conditions were extreme. Actually it was much colder in Paris than in London. You build heated ground when you know the risk of freezing temperatures is high, but in Paris this is not justified. Such temperatures occur once every 30 or 40yrs.

As for the FFR and LNR request, it is fair. They consider they are not responsible for the situation (and I agree) therefore the Top14 clubs should not be paying the final price. The clubs have to deal with 8 games (out of 26...) without their international (=best) players, I can understand they don't want to lose them for one more game!

Posted 15:31 14th February 2012

Vonvon says...

At least, that reveals that a couple of people at the LNR are actually taking the decisions in French rugby, not the FFR which is a powerless and ageing institution. They're only preoccupied with their own interests, far from the fans and doesn't really care about the disastrous image they give of France and French rugby.

It also underlines what we really miss in France: our own stadium, dedicated to rugby. But as long as the French Rugby League will almost act like a mafia to protect its own interest, it won't happen.

DaveJ says...

adamk, why is the fairest thing to "award a draw" and deduct the Irish team points? Ireland trained, they travelled, they togged out and they were ready to play. They are also willing to play the game on a rest week.....so why on gods green earth is it fair that they should split the points if this match would not go ahead? You are clearly a Welsh or English fan.

Jog on, the FFR couldn't provide a pitch, they should do so within the current 6 nations season or concede the game. Jokers.

rugby_rockstar says...

Pathetic. A total insult to us all. The homes nations should refuse to play them at all for the rest of the season. Call it the 2012 Five Nations because we don't need or want a country in the competition who are so selfish and thoughtless. Talk about treating the fans disgracefully. They don't care about us fans at all do they, where the consideration for the people who are buying this product? Can you imagine a japanese car manufacturer treating the customer like this? To hell with France I don't want anything to do with these bodge it and scarper cowboys. What a rip off! If they can't honour their obligations then throw them out the 6 nations for this year and we'll play a five nations instead.
