Leinster and Ireland have suffered a blow after it was confirmed that wing Luke Fitzgerald had been ruled out for the remainder of the current season.
The Irish province confirmed the news in an injury update on their squad, released on Monday.
"It has been confirmed that Ireland international Luke Fitzgerald has ruptured his ACL and will require surgery once the swelling settles down, meaning that he is likely to miss the rest of the season," read the statement given by Leinster.
Leinster are currently third in the RaboDirect PRO12 and have an Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final with Wasps scheduled for April 5.

Devastating news for Fitzy, hope things work out for him and all the rest of the walking wounded.
Is it not time that the IRFU launch an in depth review of the injury attrition rate among our top players. It must be in their and the players interests to find out if there is an issue that could be addressed, be it, training, conditioning, or whatever. If they (IRFU) decide on this course might I suggest that they bring in the experts from outside this country. We have seen enough of the IRFU and their parochial attitude in the hiring and employment of local lackeys.

So unfair. I hope Leinster give him a new contract.

There must be something wrong somewhere. The Irish guys are dropping like flies. They keep getting injured like this and they will have to cancel some games or borrow players from other countrys.

damn. This could be bad, he's only still in ireland because leinster gave him a one year contract in which time he was going to prove himself fit enough to get his irfu contract back. This may mean he'll have to leave ireland. I Had always hoped that in the long term he may take one of the ireland centre positions.
