the biggest damp squib of the yr was new zealand proving yet again they cant win a world cup -unless its at home , with very very sympathetic referees --

seriously, wilkinson's retirement, paterson's retirement both get mentioned and yet not a single word for Shane Williams.....disgraceful, clearly the most significant, important and let's face it, utterly memorable retirement of the year and no mention...baffled.he was totally heart-stopping, thrilling and a record breaking hero to the last and the way he went out....well, wilko cant put his name of that kind of exit can he....Shane was better and more important and deserved a mention here.

Not bad at all. Maybe Crusaders and people from Christchurch would have deserved a different outcome, although the Reds were worthy winners.
Happy New year

you neglected to mention the following...
6 August: Taieri Eels win their first banner since 1955 with a tense 12-6 win over Harbour in the Dunedin Premiership competition. Having dropped out of premier rugby in 2001, Taieri won the promotion/relegation match over University B in late 2008 and have finished 8th, 5th and now 1st on their stellar return to the top Dunedin competition. On a sadder note it was the last Dunedin club final to ever be staged at Carisbrook.
