Shoulder surgery: Justin Tipuric

Wales and Ospreys flanker Justin Tipuric is expected to return to action by the middle of September, missing the start of the season.

The British and Irish Lions openside missed the tour to South Africa with Wales in June as he continued to recover from shoulder surgery.

Ospreys medical performance manager Chris Towers revealed the influential Tipuric could be expected just after the beginning of the Guinness Pro12 campaign.

"He is progressing nicely following shoulder surgery," said Towers.

"The key for him now is a good period of physical preparation to allow him to hit his key targets over the next eight weeks ahead of his return to playing."

Towers also provided updates on other key stars for the Ospreys, including second row James King, scrum-half Rhys Webb, centre Ashley Beck plus star winger Eli Walker.

"James had surgery on his ankle nine weeks ago and is back running. He will be integrated with the squad over the next two to three weeks in order to be available for the start of the season.

"Ashley is eight weeks post-op following surgery to repair a recurring hip problem. The original prediction was for a six month recovery period and he is where we would expect him to be at this stage.

"All three of Eli, Rhys and Dmitri Arhip started pre-season with the rest of the squad and are now fully integrated into the group, taking a full part in training."
