Aaron Jarvis Ospreys 2012

Determined: Aaron Jarvis

Ospreys prop Aaron Jarvis has his sights trained on reigniting his international career with Warren Gatland's Wales.

Jarvis made his Test debut a little over a year ago in November 2012, coming into the squad for injured club colleague Adam Jones.

But since then, the 27-year-old's career has been marred by injuries. Firstly, he was ruled out for eleven months with nasty knee ligament damage sustained early on against New Zealand. Then further setbacks prevented him from adding to his Test tally in November last year, after being included in Gatland's squad.

"I'd love to play for Wales again," Jarvis told WalesOnline.

"I've just got to get my match fitness back and play well for the Ospreys.

"Once I'm playing well, I can think about those things, but I definitely want to put on that red shirt again.

"I've been happy with bits of my game.

"It was a long way back from injury and I'm slowly getting there.

"I just want to get my own game right because I was out so long.

" I just need to get more game time.

"At the moment, I play a few then pick up a little niggle, so I'm trying to keep myself fresh and get a bit more match fitness under my belt and keep improving.

"So all I can do is try to play well for the Ospreys and see where that takes me."

Jarvis remembers vividly the message of support All Black skipper Richie McCaw passed on as he left the field that day.

"It was superb to face the haka, then it all went wrong," added Jarvis.

"As soon as it happened McCaw said: 'I'm sorry, mate, I heard it go'.

"It wasn't his fault. It's one of those things that happens.

"He was rucking and landed awkwardly on my knee and that was that."

And it's been tough going for Jarvis in the face of such frustrating hurdles.

"It was tough being out injured for so long," said Jarvis.

"It's never a straight line, with constant improvement.

"Some days you will improve, other days not so much.

"It does test you mentally, but luckily I have a great wife and a young son who makes you see the light and realise you will get there."
