Wales captain Sam Warburton will reportedly sign one of the newly-formed central contracts with the WRU for next season.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Warburton's contract will be worth £300,000 a year - a salary his current region the Cardiff Blues cannot afford to pay.

However the WRU can, therefore tying Warburton into a contract in Wales before sending him out on loan to one of the regions, but most likely a return to his current side the Blues.

Warburton is one of six players to be offered central contracts by the WRU including Scott Williams, Alun-Wyn Jones, Adam Jones, Rhys Priestland and Leigh Halfpenny, although Halfpenny seems set to sign for Toulon.

By signing Warburton on a central contract the WRU would have a say in how many matches he played during the season, which would no doubt benefit the 25-year-old who has struggled with injuries.

The move would be the first of its kind for Welsh rugby as the saga between the WRU and the regions rumbles on.
