Toby Faletau: Excited to face Tonga

Wales number eight Toby Faletau hailed his team-mates' efforts after Saturday's 40-6 victory over Argentina in Cardiff.

Faletau capped a superb performance against the Pumas by scoring a try and winning man of the match award.

It was his third Test try for Wales in his 28th Test since making his debut two years ago.

The triumph over Argentina was Wales' first in an end-of-year match for four years and it came as a relief for Faletau and his fellow players who he paid tribute to for their fine efforts.

"It was a good result for the boys," he told the Western Telegraph.

"I'm happy to be the man of the match but all credit to the rest of the lads - they did well.

"I was reading something earlier which said we hadn't won an autumn game since 2009. I didn't know that was the case. I was quite surprised to read it."

When he asked about his try, Faletau said: "I can't really remember much about it, to be honest. I was just hoping for the best. I was there in support and Liam (Williams) passed the ball inside to me. I didn't know whether I would make the try-line."

Wales' next match is against Tonga on Friday, the country of his birth. Faletau's father Kuli represented the Pacific islanders 20 times before moving to Wales to play for Ebbw Vale in the 1990s.

The 23-year-old admits that he relishes facing the Sea Eagles who will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 38-18 loss to France on the weekend.

"If I'm given the chance to play against Tonga, it would be special because it's the country I was born and am from," Faletau said.

"It would be like any other game for me. What it would be like for my parents? I'm not too sure. My parents will know more. I'm not familiar with anybody in the Tonga team."

And which team will his parents be supporting?

"I'm not sure - I'll just leave it up to them," he said.

"I think anybody would take the opportunity to play for their country. If I'm offered the opportunity to play against Tonga, I'd take it with both hands."
