Critical: Richard Cockerill

Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has expressed his frustration over Toby Flood's lack of opportunities with England.

Flood was used sparingly throughout the November Internationals, with Owen Farrell starting ahead of the Leicester ten in the fly-half spot.

With Flood and Dan Cole, Ben and Tom Young and Geoff Parling now all back at Leicester for the resumption of the Aviva Premiership this weekend, Cockerill believes England boss Stuart Lancaster missed a trick by not using Flood more against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.

"They (England) still have not quite solved that 10, 12, 13 area have they? That's still probably an area of concern for English rugby at the moment," Cockerill told the Daily Mail.

'I'm a little bit disappointed Toby didn't get to start.

"Toby has to enter the fray in a really important game [against New Zealand] and he looked a little bit rusty, because he hasn't played.

"You probably need to have a little bit more rotation and see what players can do. Farrell's clearly the first-choice ten and that's fine.

"But there were opportunities to play Toby and different people in that midfield and see if there were combinations that would make [the midfield] tick.

"The [Leicester] lads will be disappointed that they did not get more game time but that may make them more hungry to get back playing for us and into consideration for the Six Nations.

"But England have been going pretty well and it's subjective as to what's Stuart is doing."

Leicester host London Irish at Welford Road on Saturday.
