Delirium was the order of the day on Saturday at Twickenham as England defeated New Zealand 38-21 with three second-half tries.
New Zealand responded to a 15-0 defecit with scores from Julian Savea and Kieran Read, before England took charge thanks to three of their own from Brad Barritt, Chris Ashton and Manu Tuilagi in an astonishing second-half performance.
Owen Farrell endured a tumultuous week with being named as one of the best four players in the world, as if the pressure coming for England's most-capped player in Toby Flood wasn't enough. But the young Saracen flourished, showing great poise with the boot as he continued to tally up the points and steered England during the first half.
The All Blacks had been struck down by a vomiting bug during the week and despite Richie McCaw's claim that it would not affect them at Twickenham, New Zealand did not look themselves at all during the first 50 minutes as they were denied possession.
Julian Savea's try changed all of that; stepping his way through three England defenders in the left-hand corner to breathe life into the All Blacks. They flicked the switch and thundered forward from the re-start, sticking to their principles of running rugby and exploiting gaps that they left untouched in the first half.
England though were not simply going to fall down on their knees. Instead they roared back, thumping the All Blacks as the second half wore on. The rarest of breaks from Brad Barritt had the crowd roaring and a one-two with centre partner Tuilagi led to the hosts' first try.
Tuilagi then skipped through a tackle from Dan Carter to burst free, feeding Ashton who sprinted over for the second try. A Tuilagi interception then sealed the match, cruising home and slowing down as he neared the line as if he couldn't believe his luck. England were like a new team - the All Blacks were exhausted.
Whilst Carter missed two shots at goal in the first half, his fellow IRB Player of the Year nominee Farrell was accurate - knocking over two first-half penalties to give England a surprising 6-0 lead to the delight of the home crowd.
An overthrown lineout from Keven Mealamu resulted in another English driving maul before Tuilagi burst into the 22 and with the advantage being played, Farrell dropped back and stretched England's lead to nine.
Another infringement with seconds remaining left Farrell with another chance to strike before half-time, landing the 48 metre kick to leave the score at 12-0. Twickenham had never been more pleasantly surprised.
The run continued after the break with England winning a penalty at the scrum, Farrell again converting to leave New Zealand more than two converted tries behind the hosts.
Those tries duly arrived in two explosive bangs in the left-hand corner; the first coming from Savea then the second coming as the conclusion to some wonderful passing that left Read galloping into the corner before England scorched away. Savea responded with a try with only five minutes left but it was not enough as the All Blacks lost for the first time in 2012.
Man of the match: Two assists and one crucial interception try from Manu Tuilagi make him the player of the day.
Moment of the match: With New Zealand edging back into the match, Brad Barritt's score swung the momentum back in England's favour.
Villain of the match: The mystery bug that struck New Zealand earlier in the week. McCaw might have denied it would have an effect, but the All Blacks looked exhausted.

I must say congratulations to the NH fans as well. With only a very few exceptions you've been extremely gracious in victory.
Like you, I hope this is just the beginning of England playing expansive rugby and winning consistently. It can only be good for the game.

France 33 - 6 Australia is a thrashing.
Absolutely no doubt that England were the better team on the day and deserved their win

Robbie Deans comment about the divide in NH and SH was criticised by the media as his excuse for the close call agaist Italy, now it doesn't sound that silly anymore hahaha...Critics/poster, no one is ever right and its just one of those hobbies that we'll grow old and out of it...

Most of the posters have been waiting for this moment and result, not the England win but when the ABs lose. Its sad because they seem to all want to beat the ABs and only have England to thank hahaha...On a serious note its taking away the credit from England for winning this match. Great stuff and it took and Islander to smash the ABs almost single handed lol..

Had a great Saturday planned, worked all morning moving a friends house then back to mine with all the boys to sit down and watch a good test, and what a test we were treated to. OK I am a proud All Blacks fan and I do not like losing but to be beaten by a better team who deserve their emphatic win doesn't leave a sour taste at all. I was sat next to my best friend who happens to be English for the entirety and he was very humble although I suspect that was partly to do with the four other Kiwis in the room! haha
Enjoyed watching Englands tactics at the tackle and subsequent rucks, they analysed the ABs tactics particularly at defensive ruck time and found a brilliant counter and it worked a treat. England were physically more dominant across the park, played with more hunger and courage - they simply looked like they wanted it more. Once they won the ruck defensive ruck battle they were able to put A. Smith under tremendous pressure and it showed, the guy folded, his lack of experience was exposed. But just as tellingly the ABs were not able to modify their game plan on the hop so just continued to get battered. DC had an off game so that didn't help matters either.
During the match I was thinking 'this is what it feels like to be the team playing against the All Blacks' it really does suck!
Well done England, you deserved it.

Fair play to Hansen and mccaw in post match interviews. No excuses. Wish a lot of the bloggers on this site who have probably never played a high level of rugby could be as humble.

Well done England, what a game, this Scotsman thinks its one of the best he has ever seen. Stomach bug, I'm glad at least Richie was man enough not to mention it, hero And gent that he is. England really wanted this one. AB,s tired? Rubbish. Now that they finally play almost as many club and country games as the NH teams they could be tired... Dry your eyes....

New Zealand must have been hit really hard by that illness... there's no other way to explain the margin of victory. England lose to SA and OZ(much weaker teams than NZ), yet manage to flog the mighty All Blacks? Come on guys stop deluding yourselves... the equation simply does not add up. You can't be expected to play, let alone win a test match after that kind of illness.

Since jonesy2 couldn't cop it on the chin as our AB captain did ... on his behalf I say well played England ... this was your game and you deserved it, whether the first or the last game of the season any game with the All Blacks in front of a full crowd is always something special ... hence if we didn't care I (incl. my friend jonesy2) wouldn't be commenting. This game mattered bro ... Have you watched McCaw's post-game speech?

An astonishing and dare I say it, extremely satisfying game of rugby from England.
In the end you just had to say "Well done England" all of whom manned up, mentally and physically, for the occasion.
They,d talked the talk and now they walked the walk, and it was good to see.
Robshaw as captain deserves special mention, he had undergone public torment for errors in previous games and handled them with honesty and dignity and it was fitting he led this side to a record win.
Commiserations to the All Blacks, this will rankle for quite some time, but won,t diminish your achievements in the last year or so.
It will certainly give an insight into just how difficult it is to attain and maintain this sort of effort.
And to be fair, losing games between RWC may not be such a burden, but by a smaller margin please.

Well done England on an impeccable performance, your set-piece play was well drilled and regimented. Obviously this was the big kahuna, the change in tempo and mindset showed how much England focussed on this game.

I am overjoyed by the way England played yesterday. I've been waiting for that for a long time. I just hope that this is the start of something wonderful. If we don't maintain this level then yesterday's match means nothing.
Of course NZ are still the best team on the planet. Look st the way they have played over the last couple of years. They have been immense. And you don't lose that overnight. England were clearly the better team yesterday and deserved the win, but I'm convinced the ABs will bounce straight back to their winning ways. I just hope England keep going the right way.
