@ jamesliveinhope - I appreciate you point, but if he's surrounded by Lancaster, Farrell, Rowntree, etc..? I think his raw talent and ability to read the game will be useful. I think he'll fit the SL style well and knows how to create some attacking lines and flair. Qualifications aren't everything - I'm sure we all know people who are qualified yet useless at a role, and those who have no qualifications, yet shine...

jamesliveinhope , ok so you don't want Greenwood. So who DO you want ?

Haven't we just gone through a fairly bad experience with a high quality ex-player unable to convert his on-pitch management ability to off pitch managemen?
I like Greenwood, but I think I'd like to see him establish a few coaching credentials before we travel down that road again.

NHSaints - spot on
We need good defensive skills in the backs and the evidence from Sarries this season is that Andy Farrell provides this.
So from where do we get the creativity we need in the back line ? Where is the coach who can bring a spark of inventiveness to our play ?
I know there are some doubters and that's fair enough but the only Englishman I could see bringing this quality to the team is Will Greenwood. If you chaps know of better candidates for the post of attack coach, then let's hear the names and debate their merits.
And frankly, I'm not to proud to say that alot of other nations have often played with more flair than England so if your candidate is foreign, then so be it. It'll encourage the anti-England brigade but that's something we have to live with.

Had been thinking of Greenwood also, and Ashton. Also to consider are Healey and Robinson. They'd all fit in better with the Northerner regime better than Catt who from the body language seems not to have clicked with SL. Unlucky for Catt: would any attack coach got a win so soon down there?
And Jonny Wilkinson... Backs Player mentor, kick coach in a year or so?? What the hell bring them all in; Richard Hill forwards mentor. Neil Back forwards defence.
Then have a game coaches vs coaches.
My choice would be Ashton for attack. Adds experience and has great attack pedigree.

So long as he's defence coach I'm happy.

@ Headhunter99 - I agree that SOHK is a different kettle of fish, but WG seems like he knows what he's doing. With more experienced coaches to guide him with the theoretical stuff, I think he'd be great. And, perhaps, a departure from a traditional "Coach" might be just what we need to put a firework up the backsides of the backs. I have to admit, however, he is a tonic when Barnes spouts his usual nonsense!
@ rollingdoughnut - Hear! Hear! She has done nothing but good things for every team she's worked with. Sir Clive didn't get everything right, but he certainly knew that he needed specialists to help in every aspect; be it vision, logistics, law, etc. Oh yes. And the playing of rugby too..!
@ jamesliveinhope - I'd love to see MC back at Bath and I rue the day we let him go. I never thought we'd ever get him back after the way he was treated, but with Booth in the fold, there's a glimmer of hope...

Kiwikev I think most people realised that he joined Union a bit too late. Where as previous players when they swap codes like SBW, Jason Robinson and Rocky Elsom they swapped codes early enough to learn their trade and then make a success of it. I just think he left it too late and maybe coaching is the way for him to give back to Union.

@APV1 and @Melkdave torn over Catt, much as I'd like to see him in the setup, there is also a seat at Bath that may need filling.
@Fozza - have always had a problem with Edwards, always felt (maybe wrongly) that his success came from making players more scared of him than the opposition, that sort of influence has a shelf-life unless you are willing to regularly turn over your squad or unless (like Dallaglio) you're not particularly scared of either.

Good news. Farell's a top man. And bring back Sherylle Calder - the only person involved with the winning team in both the 2003 and the 2007 world cups. I think her contribution has been sadly ignored. Under her guidance, England started playing heads-up rugby for the first time in years.

I don't think brining in Greenwood would be a sound idea, coaching on SOHK is a long long way from the national side. Greenwood is more value to England and Rugby in the NH in his current role with Sky, every season sees him developing into the voice of reason against the ravings of Stuart Barnes.
Look at last time we brought in an inexperienced coach from the 2003 champion side, we all know how that Ended.
Great move having Farrell back on the scene.

I like the idea of Will Greenwood giving some input to the coaching, preferably as an attack coach or assisting another attack coach. I reckon Andy Farrell is a good coach but I think his strengths are in defence, not attack.

I just hope that Faz hasn't been brought back as attack coach. Just look at Saracens attacking record, and even England's in the 6 Nations.
I'm not convinced Catt is the answer either, and if Wayne Smith keeps saying no then I don't know who is. Does anybody think that Brian Ashton woudl come back to the England set up after last time?

I don't think we need a specialist attack coach. Seems like Lancaster has a good idea of how he wants the team to play and has 2 others to implement it.

Well i hope M.Catt also gets a role specialising in attack,3-4 weeks aent really enough to lay an attacking style foundation.Englands defence isnt to bad ,still needs improvement ,but its not bad,and definatly not the finished article ,Attcking style takes 2-3 times along to get rught ,as their are alot more variables, and things to work on.Lets hope that Farral and Catt, can work together, and come up with a great and fantastic style for England

I still think that, if Catt's not part of the coaching structure, then bringing in Will Greenwood might be an option. He coaches as part of the SOHK, so has some experience, albeit not much. But with all of the other coaches around him for support, perhaps this is something for consideration...

We were clearly missing a defence coach in SA, dont think farrell has come back to do the defence if he has big mistake!
Get Farrell working on the attack and David Ellis in for the defence that would be amazing for england!
