Haskell has played well for the Highlanders but certainly hasn't set the house on fire. Getting suspended; two yellow cards; and too many penalties were definitely negatives. He was probably a square peg in a round hole in that because of the presence of Adam Thompson he couldn't play 6 which is his best position. Possibly the game plan was focussed on Thompson to Haskell's detriment. Was he worth it? Probably so, because of the interest factor but only just. He appeared to be a good bloke and was well accepted by the community which was also important.

how does south africa and new zealand manage jetlag the super and test sides do so many flights every year with just a 5-6 day break between the games? suppose the days of getting pissed on the flight are well gone

Ruled out by jet lag ... and the fact he was carried all season by Adam Thomson!!!!

Jeez, if we want to lose this test series then there's no surer method than to play James "run up to the ruck, stop just before making contact, then bend over propping yourself up on the nearest prone player" Haskell.

I've been frustrated when watching Haskell as he does give away too many penalties. Glad to have him for this tour and for those clamouring for Steffon Armitage, I'd like to see him too but as his team are in the final of the French League this coming Saturday it seems to be asking a lot for him to play in that game, fly out to South Africa, get used to a whole new system he's not been involved in at all, then play in the second test... Bring him out for the Barbarians games by all means but this tour is too soon for him.

Haskal imo shouldnt really be in the squad imo, playing S15 means his missed all the training camps so far and is unfamilar with the present England set up .But he is a dynamic player who hopefully will be better for his experiance next season.S.Armitage would solve the tricky 7 position for England and a unit of Robshaw-Armitage-Morgon looks balanced and i feel would give anyone a game as all can carry the ball and offload well and tackle like demonsect. But Armitage is playing in the french Top 14 atm,and that doesnt finish until June 9th .Same day as 1st test ,then he could fly out but again wouldnt be ready for the 2nd test as he like Haskal hasnt been involved in any of the training camps .Probible could make the 3ed test ,but would it be worth it really, not imo.Much better that he rests and gets ready for the aurtum ,if his present form continues

+ he would know how SH teams play rugby , after the S15 experience.

- but he has to play in the England setup , which will make him the sore thumb.

How he adapts (and fast) to the different styles will determine how successful and long his Intl. career will be.

Remember that he has been a major yellow candidate and has given a plethora of penalties in S15. (when he played)

Haskell - played in a total nine games for the Highlanders this season, made 72 tackles, two linebreaks, and conceded nine penalties plus two yellow cards, and gained a three-week suspension. During Saturday's 10min off, Crusaders scored 22 points - of course can't blame him for all that, but being a man down sure did have an impact.

Was it worth it for him, or the Highlanders?

why is Haskell joining the squad, and Armitage isn't? Seriously?

England seems to have gone from a country that had so many strong 6s they were playing them at 7 and 8 to quite likely selecting a player who's not capped yet, ... away to South Africa. He'd better be a hard tackler! How many caps would a combo of Robshaw, Morgan and Johnson have? Around 10? Just as long as they can handle/win the collisions. I was hoping Haskell would start at 6 given the absence of Wood and Croft. Or Armitage would head out and Robshaw shift to 6. Could suffer in the loose.
